UNIT 3 AVCE PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF HEALTH

ASSIGNMENT GUIDANCE

FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT YOU SHOULD:

 Use Font 12 or 14
 Number and name each page
 Place all your work in one plastic pocket
 Hand in your work to the Administrator
 Annotate your work (i.e. show to which task your work applies)
 Ensure that all diagrams are labelled and have a title
 Ensure that all your work is your own

For a Grade E you must do the following:

1.A. Record routine measurements: Temperature, Blood Pressure, Pulse,

Respiration rate, Peak flow and spirometry; they should be charted in
appropriate ways. In order to obtain a full range, we will start the
recordings in class time and then you will be required to record
measurements over a period of time ( e.g. a week). In order to record
variations from the normal, you will need to record measurements
before and after exercise, at rest, when your client becomes anxious or
excited; other variations can occur when a client has a respiratory
problem e.g. a cold or asthma.
B. You must explain the deviations from the normal range and the normal
measurements.

2.A. You must show that you have used the equipment safely.
2.B. You must describe what the potential risks to health and safety are
when monitoring your client and how those risks can be reduced.

3. You must describe and explain the gross structure and functions of the
systems that you have monitored; i.e. the Respiratory, Cardiovascular
and Nervous/Endocrine Systems. You must describe how these
systems work together (inter-relate).

4. You must describe the homeostatic mechanisms involved in controlling

the systems that you have monitored.

In order to achieve a C grade you must complete Tasks 1 – 4 plus the
following:

5. You must review your monitoring methods to identify possible sources

of error and the effects these errors could have on the results.

6. You must explain how and why two of the homeostatic mechanisms
(described in task 4) may dysfunction and will give abnormal data.
Secondary resources will be required here as well as your own primary
resources.
(Homeostatic mechanisms may dysfunction because of disease and/or
trauma e.g. Adrenal abnormalities, Asthma, Heart Block, Haemorrhage,
and Essential Hypertension.)

7. You must present your collected data in such a way to show how the
systems are working together to bring about homeostasis.

In order to achieve Grade A you must complete Tasks 1 – 7 plus the

following.

8. You must suggest and justify ( give good reasons for ) ways to improve
accuracy in the collection of data which records physiological functions
e.g. Temperature, Pulse, Respiration, Peak Flow, Blood Pressure ).

9. You must interpret and analyse the data comprehensively ( in depth ) to

show how the body systems work together to bring about homeostasis.
