CONCEPT MAP & CRITIQUE

The Concept Map for Virtual Reality – Shopping is shown in the figure below:

Description of Concept Mapping

The concept map which I have created as shown in the above figure is a concept map for

an online shop. If any customer or business owner wants to open an online shop and generate

sales through its products and services from its business, then the above concept map can be used

to guide the organizational tools and objectives. Customers, payment, transportation of the

products and the support or the after sales service are the four main components of an online

shop which are shown in the above concept map. There are different options available on the

payment and the transportation for the products of the company which would be ordered through
the online shop. The support team of the company will provide all the required support,

guarantees and after sales service for the products sold.

Concept Map as Organisational Tool

Concept map is basically the graphical tools for the representation and the organization of the

ideas and the knowledge. The knowledge or the ideas are enclosed in boxes or circles, and this

simplifies the business and strategic planning process. This is also called as a conceptual diagram

which shows relationships between different concepts. These maps service to enhance the

meaningful learning and the planning of different strategies or innovative ideas in the sciences

(Cañas, 2008). The use of the concept maps serves as the most important organizational tool

today as it helps to stimulate the generation of new and valid ideas. These maps are believed to

aid creativity also. Brainstorming is also another characteristic of concept mapping. Today

concept maps are also widely used in businesses and education (Lynda A. Anderson, 2011).

Strengths & Weaknesses of Concept Mapping

The strengths of concept mapping are that it simplifies the planning process and

stimulates the generation of new ideas. Another important advantage of concept mapping is that

they show the relationships between the different components of a plan or a strategy and which

activity would impact on the other activities. Another important strength of concept maps is that

it acts not only as learning not but also as an evaluation tool for understanding meaningful-mode

learning patterns (Shavelson, 2003). However, there are also certain weaknesses of concept

mapping, for example, the relationships on the concept maps become difficult to interpret. A
concept map discourages critical thinking, so this is not beneficial for the educators. Finally, the

benefits of concept mapping might be limited if they are created at the wrong time.

Experiences during this task

I gained many useful insights by performing this task. I came to know that concept mapping is

such a power organizational tool which is easy to use to understand the relationships of different

components. My experience during this task was impressive and outstanding, and I would surely

make use of concept mapping in my educational and future business studies.
