ALEJANDRO (explanation)

Alejandro is Mans protector and defender. (GOD)

Fernando is Ardent for peace. (JESUS)
Roberto is Bright or shining fame. (HOLY SPIRIT)
Hotter than Mexico means Hell.

"Don't bother me Don't bother me Alejandro (God)"

"Don't call my name Don't call me Name Bye Fernando(Jesus)"
"I'm not your Babe (child) I'm not your Babe (child) Alejandro (God)"
"Don't call my name don't call my name Roberto (Holy Spirit)"

In the Bible, the word "Babe" is used in place of "child" -Exodus 2:6

After watching the video and hearing what linseymc94 had to say I believe the song is more
about religion. I believe the video reflects this theme of religion more clearly with the use of
Christian — judo symbolism and the video also adds the theme of the modern battle of Gays
against society and the theme of the lack of the gay’s freedom in the military.

The battle of gays against society is represented by the physical war scenes and chaos in the
background screen. And the gay dancers marching getting ready for battle.

The prancing soldiers, and men wearing heels/stockings representing the gays in the military or
lack of liberty for gays in the military. And the battle against don’t ask don’t tell.

Lady Gaga questions the church condoning homosexuality and goes back and forth deciding
whether or not to part with Christianity. “At this point I have to choose nothing to loose”

Lady Gaga holding a heart with an A on it (Alejandro/GOD), followed by a coffin representing

the death of her old religion and beliefs of Christianity. “I know that you may love me but I just
can’t be with you like this anymore” She said her album is about celebrating the death of your
old life and the beginning of the new.

But she is later seen in a nun outfit praying, but asking God Alejandro “just let me go”. Shortly
after shots of her sexually on top of a male go back and forth with shots of her as a nun. But she
is then short after seen having what appears to be her giving anal sex to the male. But she is then
seen in a white cloak with the upside down cross which is not the devils cross but actually the
holy St peters cross; representing unworthy of Gods Salvation; making a point that gays are not
worthy of Gods salvation or at least the church thinks so. She then swallows the rosary making a
point that Christians will swallow and belief anything the church tells them. She takes in the
rosary to accept God. Various shots of her making love go back and forth with shots of her as a
nun once again but in black and white so it appears to be reminiscent. Has she made the right
choice?

By accepting God and wearing the holy cloak the gays reject and throw her, just as the church
has rejected them. When she unrobes the holy cloak and parts with God the gays then accept her.
She then looks at us (the camera) upside down just like when St Peters was hung upside down
and looked at his killers. She’s looking at the forth wall/ the audience: society. As society kills
the souls of gay’s maybe?

She then dies and burns in hell. “Hot like Mexico, rejoice” she’s saying rejoice in a sarcastic
way. Yay god hates us we’re going to hell, cuz apparently god hates gays.

First time I watched it when I saw her in the white/red cloak I thought she was a reverse Joan of
arc, instead of ending the war using God and the church; she is leading the modern war of gay
rights. Joan of arc had to pretend she was a man and in the video Gaga is fucking a male dancer
from behind so was she pretending to be a man in that sense?

So after watching the video I really think Alejandro Fernando Roberto are references to God,
Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I know that Klein (the director) has said its about the sorrow of loosing
a loved one and that Gaga has said the songs about her fear of sex and fear of commitment which
it is also about, but I believe its mainly about Christianity and she doesn’t want to admit it
because imagine how bad her popularity would decrease.

I think one of the meanings of the song is a commentary about how homosexual/bisexual people
are often turned off by the doctrine of the church and turn away from God altogether. The name
Alejandro means protector/defender. In the holy trinity this is supposed to represent God.

The name Fernando means peace/love. That represents Jesus. The name Roberto means shining
joy. That represents the Holy Spirit.

At the beginning she says "I know that we are young/And I know that you may love me/But I
just can't be with you like this anymore/Alejandro" I think she's saying I know God loves me but
I can't pretend anymore.

1st verse: She sings "She's got both hands/In her pockets/And she won't look at you won't look at
you" So this woman's not being honest about something. Then she says "She hides true love in su
busillo" she covers up her true love (a woman) by being with a man, as others have pointed out
su busillo is Spanish for his pocket. Then "she's got a halo round her finger around you" I think
that means she appears innocent because she's not open about her sexuality. The halo referred to
may be a chastity ring or something like that.

In the pre-chorus she sings "You know that I love you boy" the boy she's talking to is Alejandro
(God) so she loves God. But then she says "Hot like Mexico, rejoice" i think that's a reference to
Hell and she believes she's going to hell because she's a lesbian or bisexual. Then "At this point
I've gotta choose/Nothin to lose" She's deciding whether or not to be openly gay and she decides
yes cause she thinks she's going to hell anyways, that's why she says she has nothing to lose.

The chorus is her rejecting the trinity. She tells God not to call her name, or try and change her.
She tells Jesus she doesn't belong to him (I'm not your babe). And she tells the Holy Spirit she
doesn't want to be involved with him she just wants to smoke her cigarette, which i think
represents vices, as the Holy Spirit is supposed to inspire people to live "the right way". I think
the reason she repeats Alejandro over and over after the chorus is because she really does want to
be with God but feels like she can't because of her sexuality.

Then "Stop please/Just let me go/Alejandro/Just let me go" I think this time she's talking to the
church not necessarily God himself but yeah I don't know I guess either works.

2nd verse: "She's not broken/She's just a baby/But her boyfriend's like her dad/Just like a dad" I
think it means there is nothing wrong with her but her boyfriend (Alejandro/God/the church)
wants to change her or fix her. Then "And all those flames that/Burned before him/Now he's
gotta firefight/Gotta cool the bad" In other words the church and God try to change her even
though she doesn't want to be changed. The flames might refer to past lesbian relationships
and/or Hell.

Then the chorus again

But in the bridge she changes the chorus. She tells Alejandro not to bother her, cause she just
wants to live her life the way she feels she should. She tells Fernando not to call her name and
says "Bye Fernando" I think it's cause Jesus is a symbol of forgiveness and there are those in the
church saying she can repent, but she doesn't want to because she doesn't feel she's sinned. She
tells Alejandro "I'm notcha babe/I'm not ya babe" I think that means babe like child. She's saying
she no longer feels like a child of God. Then she tells Fernando she doesn't want to kiss or touch.
I think that's cause, once again, the Holy Spirit is supposed to inspire people and she no longer
wants to be inspired.

In the video she uses a lot of religious imagery and I think it's because people thought this song
was just about a relationship gone bad or a woman not wanting to be controlled. The video
doesn't really reference either of those things but it does reference religion and homosexuality a
lot so it only made sense to me that that's what the song was about. However, there are lots of
interpretations of this song, that's why it's such a good song. Just giving an opinion that I don't
think has been explored yet.
