Skills individually
 Building strong content knowledge – through research they will learn more facts about their

21st Century
Skills  Communication – Students will share what they know about the word extinct and compare their
research with a partner.
 Collaboration – Students will be working with a group to answer different scenario about endangered
animals.
Lesson Delivery
Identify vocabulary and key terms that are important for students to know to understand the lesson:
Extinct – no longer existing

7 Endangered Species – animals whose continued existence is threatened

Vocabulary/Key Deforestation – the act or process of clearing out the forest by cutting trees and not replanting them
Terms Global Warming – the gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere
Greenhouse Effect – problem caused by increased quantities of gases such as carbon dioxide in the air
that trap the heat from the sun and cause global warming

Differentiated
Instruction  English Learners
Students will be given ample time to complete tasks.
 Special Needs ADHD
Students will be assisted by teacher or competent student and teacher will use proper wait time for
students to formulate answers.
 Accelerated (Gifted/Talented)
Students who finish early will be given an enrichment or extension activity by researching an extinct
animal they wish would still exist and give the reason why they chose it. Then ask them to give ways
we could have prevented it from extinction.

9 Describe at least TWO different types of formal or informal assessments you will use during your lesson to
Assessments check for student learning:
Formative Teacher will perform informal assessments during the guided practice. Teacher will work with
small groups monitoring conversations and listening to them work as a group ensuring they understand the
film they are reviewing.
Summative: Students will complete research worksheet on their animal’s reason for being listed on the
endangered species list. Students must also draw a picture of themselves helping their animal from
extinction.
10 Prior Knowledge, Context, and Motivation (How will you connect the beginning of the lesson to what
Lesson Delivery students already know and/or motivate them to learn about the topic?)
 Recognize that plants and animals need air, water, light (plants only), space, food and shelter and that
these may be found in their environment.
 Summarize ways that humans protect their environment and/or improve conditions for the growth of
the plants and animals that live there (e.g. reuse or recycle products to avoid littering.)
