Math Bingo

Miss Torres’ 3rd grade Super Stars

This lesson plan is a whole group activity
 Math
Standard #6: Students will develop their ability to solve problems by engaging in
developmentally appropriate problem solving opportunities in which there is a
need to use various approaches to investigate and understand mathematical
concepts in order to: formulate their own problems; find solutions to problems
from everyday situations; develop and apply strategies to solve a wide variety
of problems; and integrate mathematical reasoning, communication, and
connections.

Objective: The student will be able to solve the given multiplication problem that
is labeled in each square of the answer the teacher will address. Example:
Teacher will say, “What times what gives you 35?” On one of the student's
square tiles it will have ‘ 7x5=?’ and students will have to figure out which
problem on their bingo chart will equal that amount.

Materials Needed:
1. 25 Bingo cards
2. A pack of plastic bingo chips
3. A key with all the questions and answers
4. A bag of dum dums

Procedures:
1. First, you will address to the class that they will be doing a multiplication
math bingo.
2. You will then pass out a bingo card and a handful of chips to each
student at their own desks.
3. Next, you will tell the students the directions on how to play bingo. You will
tell them that you are going to give them an answer and they are going to
have to figure out which problem on their bingo chart equals that amount.
Once they think they found the correct problem to the answer, they will
place a chip on that problem. You will also address that they are allowed
to shout ‘BINGO’ once they have a row of chips going either horizontal,
vertical, or even diagonal.
4. Next, you will say an answer out loud to the classroom. For example:
What equals 80? After that, you will just continue on asking them the
questions off of the answer key.
5. Finally, after students have called, ‘BINGO’ students will be rewarded with
a dumdum(lollipop).
Assessment: I think this would be a good assessment for students because it
will help them become familiarized with memorizing problems and knowing the
answers to them. It’s basically like giving them a test, but in a fun learning way. I
also think it is a lot more rewarding when students are working towards a goal,
which is getting a piece of candy.
