What is a community?

A community is a group of
people living or working
together in the same area.

Example: a school, a post


office, a fire station
Who is a community
helper?
A community helper works
towards keeping a
community safe, healthy,
clean and organised.

Example: a farmer, a teacher,


a postman
Teacher
• A teacher teaches
the children good
manners.
• A teacher also
teaches to read
and write.
Principal

• The principal is the head of an


institution.
• He/she guides the teachers and other
people who work in the school.
Librarian

• Librarian takes care


of the library.
• He/she help us to find
books to read.
Doctor

• Doctors take care of our health by


giving check-ups.
• They give medicines and treat us for
our illness.
Nurse

• Nurses assist the doctors.


• They help us when we are sick or
hurt.
• They administer injections and
medicines.
Dentist

• Dentists clean germs


and fix cavities in
our teeth.
Police Officer

• Police officers help


keep us and our
neighbourhood safe.
• They make sure that
people follow the rules.
Traffic Policeman

• Traffic policemen
direct traffic.

• They help the people


to be safe on the road.
Firefighter

• Firefighters save people who are


trapped in burning houses and
buildings.
• They wear uniforms that protect
them from the fire.

• Postmen deliver
letters and
parcels to our
home.

• Farmers grow food
for us.

Carpenter
• Carpenters use wood to make
furniture.
• They use tools such as hammers,
screw drivers and power drills for
this.
Electrician

• Electricians work
with electrical
appliances like fans,
televisions etc.
• They also check
wires on the poles.
Plumber

• Plumbers fix pipes


in buildings.
• They fix sinks,
toilets and bathtubs
too.
Barber

• Barbers help us to
manage our hair.
• They give us a haircut
and style our hair.
Tailor
• Tailors sew or stitch
new clothes for us.
• They use measuring
tape, scissors and a
sewing machine for
sewing clothes.
Cobbler
• Cobblers mend
our shoes.
• They use a shoe
horn, a needle and
thread for this.
Sweeper
• Sweepers keep
our roads and other
places clean.
Baker
• Bakers bake breads,
cakes and pizzas.
• They use an oven to
bake these.
Chef
• Chefs cook food for
other people.
• They wear a white hat
and an apron.
Florist

• Florists sell flowers.


• They also make
different kinds of
beautiful bouquets.
