Life Stages of Pig

1.

 Gestating (114 days) - Gilts reach maturity and are bred at 170-220 days of age
.

 Farrowing (birth to weaning; 21 days) - Sows and gilts are moved to a farrowin
g pen when nearing parturition. Sows nurse piglets (2-3 lbs. at birth) umtil they
are weaned after 21 days. (Weaned at 13-15 lbs.)

 Nursery (42 - 56 days) - After weanig, piglets are moved to a grower-finisher

pen. In this phase, pigs grow to 50-60 lbs.

 Growing and Finishing (115-120 days) - Pigs consume 10 lbs. of feed daily. At a
bout 6 months, the pigs weigh about 280 lbs. and are then market ready
