Your machine is equipped with command control steering. Machines that have command control steering will
steer differently than other machines. The turning speed of the machine depends on the rotational position of
the steering wheel. The machine will continue to articulate as the steering wheel is rotated. When the steering
wheel is allowed to return to the CENTER position, further articulation of the machine is prevented.

The primary steering system has two basic circuits. These circuits are the pilot oil system and the high
pressure system. Secondary steering may be installed on your machine as an attachment. Secondary steering
is a third circuit.

The pilot system consists of the following components: pilot control valve (2), orifice (5), screen (6), quad
check valves (9), steering control valve (10), shuttle valve (12), neutralizer valves (13), and pilot oil pump
(18).

The pilot oil system controls the movement of steering control valve (10). The primary source of pilot oil is
pilot oil pump (19). Oil from the pilot oil pump flows to a screen. The oil then flows into pilot valve (17).
Pilot oil then flows through shuttle valve (12) and into pilot control valve (2). As the operator turns steering
wheel (1), pilot oil is allowed to flow through pilot control valve (2). Pilot oil then flows through quad check
valves (9) and neutralizer valves (13). Pilot oil then flows to the end of the spool valve in steering control
valve (10). The pilot oil pressure shifts the spool valve into the desired position. For additional information on
the pilot valve, refer to the Systems Operation, "Pilot Valve (Steering)".

Excessive pilot oil that cannot pass through neutralizer valve (13) passes through filter screen (6). The oil
then flows through orifice (5) and back to hydraulic tank (23).

As the machine continues to articulate, neutralizer valve (13) will contact steering stop (14). This will shift
neutralizer valve (13) into the CLOSED position. The flow of pilot oil to steering control valve (10) is then
blocked. The spool valve then returns to the CENTER position and the machine stops articulating.

Pilot oil can also be supplied by the steering pump. If pilot oil pump (19) fails, steering pump (22) will supply
pilot oil. Steering pump (22) sends oil through pressure reducing valve (15). This drops the steering oil
pressure to the pressure of the pilot oil system. The oil then flows through shuttle valve (12) and into pilot
control valve (2).

The high pressure circuit consists of the following components: steering cylinders (3) and (4), crossover relief
valve (7), steering control valve (10), pressure reducing valve (15), relief valve (16), steering pump (22), and
hydraulic tank (23).

The high pressure circuit supplies the oil for steering cylinders (3) and (4). Steering pump (22) draws oil from
hydraulic tank (23). Steering pump (22) is a load sensing piston pump. The steering pump has a variable
displacement. Steering pump (22) supplies oil to steering control valve (10) through diverter valve (20).
Relief valve (16) maintains the maximum allowable system pressure. For additional information on the
steering pump, refer to the Systems Operation, "Piston Pump (Steering)". For additional information on the
steering control valve, refer to the Systems Operation, "Steering Control Valve".

As steering wheel (1) is rotated, pilot oil shifts the spool in steering control valve (10). High pressure oil is
then allowed to flow to the steering cylinders. As high pressure oil is sent to the head end of one steering
cylinder, high pressure oil is also sent to the rod end of the other steering cylinder. This causes the machine to
articulate. Crossover relief valve (7) prevents excessive steering oil pressures. The high pressure spike could
develop if one of the tires strikes an object.

The secondary steering system consists of the following: diverter valve (20), secondary steering pump (24),
relief valve (25), and pressure switch (27).

The secondary steering system supplies steering oil as well as pilot oil if an engine failure occurs. The
secondary steering system receives oil from a ground driven secondary steering pump (24). The secondary
steering pump is a gear pump. The secondary steering pump only supplies oil when the machine is moving.
The secondary steering system allows the machine to be steered if the engine fails or if the pump fails. For
additional information on the secondary steering system, refer to the Systems Operation, "Secondary Steering
System".
