How To Make Time For Writing
How To Make Time For Writing
You actually don’t want to write. So, rather than write, you procrastinate.
Trust me, if I don’t have time to write, it’s not because organizing my sock drawer is suddenly so much more
urgent. It’s just that really, I’d rather organize my sock drawers than sit at the computer and write out more
words than actually necessary.
I know it seems harsh, but don’t feel bad: I’m guilty of procrastinating as a writer myself.
Sometimes I have to write on topics I really don’t find all that exciting. But I know I need to write. So I write
anyways. It’s one of the secrets for how I more than write 2,500+ words a day.
When I’m stuck writing something I don’t really want to write, I like to instead have some fun with it. If you pay
enough attention to this blog, I’m sure you’ll notice some quirky stories in even the most b oring of topics,
like how to outline your novel.
Boredom is a great way to spice up your writing. Just ask the robot ducks in little red riding hood.
If you are stuck on what to write about, we have many Creative Writing Prompts to jumpstart your creativity!
Try waking up an hour earlier to see if that helps you with finding a good time to write. F
or others, writing comes more naturally late at night. It’s different for everyone – so try experimenting with
what works best for you.
I keep a small composition notebook in my purse with pen. This way I can jot down notes, write anything at
anytime no matter where I am!
If you’re more technically inclined, you could also send yourself an email or keep notes in your phone. I am
forever writing notes.
5. ASK F OR HELP
No one can do everything all at once all on their own. It’s okay to ask for help!
Meet with a writing group to help you stay inspired and connected, and if you need to, ask for someone to watch
the kids or do household chores.
Don’t be afraid to follow your dream of writing and make connections with people who will help you get there!
