What is emotional development?

As teachers, how shall we help in the proper emotional

management among our young adults?

Emotional development continues once children reach adolescence. The changes

associated with adolescence conjure up pictures of strong emotions – a developmental

period characterized as a time when teens become moody and negative.

As teachers, we can help in the proper emotional management among our

adolescents by guiding and giving them advice whenever we observed something to

them. Like when it comes to arguing or complaining with their classmates, we can advise

them to calm and learn to understand and respect the opinion of others. Another example

is when they have problem in the family especially with their parents. Some teenagers

will try to keep it on their own but there are times that they cannot handle it which

sometimes lead to suicide. Through us, teachers, we can be a way to open their minds in

the real world and how each person must handle those kind of problems. Another is when

it comes to love. Adolescence love brings out the whole range of feelings and emotions

in a teenager. There is the excitement feeling for the teenagers when it comes to love.

Teachers’ advice can be a big help for the teenagers’ to be guided and know their limits

when it comes to love and other things.

To end, everyone especially adolescents must remember this quote “Our emotions

need to be as educated as our intellect. It is important to know how to feel, how to respond,

and how to let life in so that it can touch you.”
