A wondertul opportunity was presented to me by my instructor, Ms. Sangha. She advised me that my patient was having surgery that day; and offer confirming with the operating oom, I was able fo observe the surgery. [also had a wonderful floor nurse, Colleen, who airected me throughout my day prior fo he surgery. She was expedient, thorough ona detalied in her work and always available for questions. When | entered the surgical area I was greeted by the surgical coordinator, Julle Caven. She could not have been more gracious and accommodating. Once | was in the surgical suite, | was greeted by Connie Alphin, the surgical educator. She was amazing! She ‘exploined everything in detail and described the roles of each of the staff members. The eniire team was wonderiul. They worked so well fogether. Ii was ike watching a choreographed team. Connie also expiained the education program for nurses. During the surgery Dr. Lockhart wos as skled as an educator as he was a surgeon, He took the fime fo explain every step of the surgery. He spoke directly fo me and made me feel so comfortable and welcomed, Since this was my fist experience in an operating room, was excited and nervous. felt that this was an unforgettable learning experience. Connie helped me explore @ whole new area of nursing and | will always value this experience, | don't think | could have had this type of experience in any other nursing program.
