PRODUCT DISTRIBUTION
THE BASICS

The author of this text states that a company or business, large or small, will
at some time need a means of transport for its merchandise. “Choosing the
right mode of transport means achieving a balance between time and budget
constraints”
A bad decision is an unsatisfied customer.

Considerations for choosing your means of transport

 Budget, key factor in the decision.
 Delivery time is even more important when they are perishable
products.
 If dangerous products are transported, it is necessary to recommend,
suggest, ensure, and tell the means of transport that danger.
 If the products to be sent are expensive, it must be ensured that the
merchandise has an insurance and a tracking system, in case of any
transport problem, since “it is generally the responsibility of the
supplier to ensure that the loads are properly packaged and labeled
to reduce the risk ”

Kinds of transport

"The right type of transport for your products depends on the size and urgency
of your shipment."
 Ground transportation is the most demanded and cheap, but very bad
for the environment. And it may take depending on the road
infrastructure.
 "Rail transport is fast, ecological and not (always) subject to
congestion," it can be very expensive, and it is economically more
feasible to use it when you need to transport large quantities and over a
long distance.
 Air transport is the fastest to travel long distances, but in turn it is very
expensive, since it is charged per kilogram, plus the handling fee, fuel
and risk surcharges, customs and security fees and VAT if you are
mattering.
 maritime transport, compared to air transport, is much cheaper to ship a
lot of goods over long distances, but much slower.
 Maritime transport is inflexible, as there are few ports, "and you will
probably need to make arrangements to move your products inland".
