Sebelum melakukan installasi, pastikan Server / PC Server kita memenuhi requirement berikut ini : 1 Processor minimal Dual Core 64bit. Sebaiknya mengunakan Intel i3 / i5 / i7 / Intel Xeon Quad Core, Intel Xeon 6 Core, Intel Xeon 8 Core, AMD Opteron 8 Core, AMD Opteron 12 Core, AMD Opteron 16 Core, dil Memory minimal 4 GB. Sebaiknya memory yang lebih besar, misalnya 16 GB / 32 GB / 64 GB / 128 GB / 256 GB, dll Harddisk minimal 80 GB. Sebaiknya lebih besar lebih baik, misalnya 500 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB, 3 TB, dll. Lebih di rekomendasikan mengunakan RAID 5 atau setidaknya mengunakan RAID 1+0 ( Mirror ). Akan lebih baik lagi jika menambahkan harddsik HotSpare. Lebih di rekomendasikan lagi mengunakan Flashdisk 8 / 16 GB atau Compact Flash 8 / 16 GB sebagai Bootable Kernel OS VMware vSphere. Keuntungannya adalah harddisk bisa terpakai sebagai Datastore 100% dan Flashdisk mudah di backup dan di clonning agar jika terjadi problem tinggal menganti flashdisk-nya saja tanpa beresiko pada Datastore. External Storage dapat mengunakan SAN atau NAS. Pastikan Kapasitasnya sesuai kebutuhan kita. NAS bisa kita beli produk jadi ataupun kita bangun sendiri mengunakan FreeNAS, NAS4Free, Openfiler, NAS Windows Storage Server, dll Ethernet 1 Gbps, kalau ada mengunakan 10 Gbps. Yang perlu dipahami disini adalah perbedaan yang sangat signifikan antara VMware vSphere 5,5 dan versi 5.1 / 5.0 mengenai kapasitas vHDD untuk VM pada versi 5.1 / 5.0 maksimal adalah 2 TB. Sedangkan pada VMware vSphere 5.5 dapat kita buat VM kapasitas vHDD lebih dari 2 TB hingga 16 TB. Kenapa? Karena kita pasti merasa khawatir jika nanti mengalami kegagalan dalam proses migrasi atau khawatirjika nanti pasti akan banyak pekerjaan tambahan mulai membackup data pada server eksisting ke Virtual Server yang baru. Yach benar, perasaan seperti ini pasti akan jadi pertimbangan tersendiri bahkan bisa jadi “MOOK” akan kegagalan tersebut. Tapi jangan khawatir, pada VMWare Converter 5.5 ini penulis sukses melakukan Convert sejumiah brand server menjadi Virtual Server. Termasuk ada proses Convert AutoCAD License Server yang kita tahu bahwa AutoCAD License Server ini di proteksi dengan Registered Mac Address dan Hostname. Untuk AutoCAD License Server ini penulis berhasil melakukan Convert sejumlah physical server.
