Reflection

My first guess before we watch the film was that this is a period film set during the
Marcos era. I expected scenes where people back then were very disciplined and the
film will portray what is the life back then, I even thought that it might even be a
documentary. Little did I know that I was watching a thriller film. The film Martial Law
(ML) is a mirror of the reality. It revealed what really happened to some victims of
tortures and abuse during those years and as well as exposing what happened after
that time, the present time. Some are trying to forget and ignoring the past while the
other victims still never moved on. While watching the film, I cannot avoid to cringe and
cover my eyes because it is full of brutality and gore. Each grunt and jerk of the actors
will make you flinch. All I can say is that, the movie is not for the fainthearted because
of the violent scenes. The actors portrayed their characters very well. The main
characters Eddie Garcia and Tony Labrusca portrayed the torture scenes effectively
that I almost felt their pain myself.

The film however just focuses only one side of the story but all in all the film was
excellent. I learned more about our history and

It’s also pretty honest with its message. It serves as both a reminder for those who lived through
those dark ages, and a warning for future generations not to repeat the same mistakes they did
