Living For The City

TRANSCRIPTION to LIVING FOR THE CITY by STEVIE WONDEE,

MOOG BASS by STEVIE WONDER

This week’s main transcription

is the Moog Bass line that Ste-
vie Wonder played on his tune
Living For The City.

Now due to the range of this

one - and the intervals that
you need to cover in parts of
the bass line - this is one that
you’d ideally need a 5 string to
play. So it’s been tabbed for a
5 string.

If - like me - you’re a 4 string player then there are two options you could
take:

1. Get your band to transpose the tune to G and play in Drop D tuning.
That will also make some of the interval jumps in the tune sit under your
hands a bit differently.

2. Transpose the line up an octave and use an Octave pedal. In a future

‘monthly’ ezine I’m going to show the basic parts of the tune doing ex-
actly this. That video and PDF tutorial will go into the Archive section
of the First Bass And Beyond website so you’ll be able to cross reference
that tutorial with this transcription.

Here’s how the bass line lays out:

Letter A - Intro - 0.00

Letter B - Verse - 0.09
Letter C - Chorus - 0.29
Letter D - Verse - 0.39

Letter E - Chorus - 0.58
Letter F - Riff - 1.08
Letter G - Verse - 1.25
Letter H- Chorus - 1.43
Letter I - Verse - 1.54
Letter J - Chorus - 2.14
Letter K - Riff - 2.27
Letter L - Outro - 32.45

As always, the tab reflects my fingering system, hand size and scale
length. If any of these differ for you - the probability of which is high -
then feel free to change the tab positions around to suit YOUR playing
system, hand size and bass length.
