Tehelka in Crisis
1. Summary
Tehelka is an indian magazine known for investigative journalism and sting
operations. The Tehelka founder Tarun Tejpal was accused by a woman colleague of
sexually assaulting her in an elevator of a five-star hotel during the magazine’s
THiNK 2013 festival in Goa in November. Shoma Chaudhury received a complaint
from a female colleague, accusing Tarun Tejpal of sexual assault.November 19
Shoma sent a statement of regret composed by Tejpal, alluding to the strike as an
'untoward episode' and taking a suspension of a half year from Tehelka. This caused
open about how the episode was taken care of. November 25, the columnist that
charged Tejpal surrendered, not content with her apparent concealment of the
circumstances; Tejpal had alluded to the strike as an untoward occurrence. November
28 Shoma Chaudhury inevitably surrendered because of the blunder of the protest.

8. RECOMMENDED ACTION

It is with overwhelming sadness that I step down as the Managing Director of Tehelka after years of
service to bringing justice.
I regret that I was unable to properly address the concern of the journalist. I would like to state that
my actions were always taken with the absolute best interests of the journalist in mind.
In any case, looking back I do trust I could've done as such in a superior manner and through an
increasingly real type of handling.
I will investigate internal to address these imperfections in myself, and offer my full help to the
casualty of Tejpal in the event that she would have it.
