Adding a Lynda.

com Course or Playlist to a Moodle Site

Prior to adding Lynda.com content:

• Create the playlist in your Lynda.com account, and ensure that it is public
• Note the course or playlist ID for the Lynda.com content, which can be located within the URL (6
digits for a course and 8 for a playlist)

In Moodle:
• Turn editing on and click “Add an activity or resource.”
• Select “Lynda.com” from the Activities List and click the Add button
• Enter the Activity name e.g. “Excel 2016 Lynda.com course”
• For Preconfigured tool, change to “Automatic, based on launch URL”
o This step seems counterintuitive, but we want to tell Moodle to open our specific course or
playlist, not the Lynda.com homepage
• For Launch Cartridge URL, the address differs for courses and playlists
o For a course, enter https://www.lynda.com/portal/lti/course/<courseid>
o For a playlist, enter https://www.lynda.com/portal/lti/playlist/<playlistid>
o e.g. : https://www.lynda.com/portal/lti/course/464215
• For Launch Container, if you want to embed the course or playlist in Moodle, select “Embed.” If
you’d prefer to launch outside of Moodle, select “New window”
• Scroll down the page a bit, click Grade and change Type to “None”
• Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save and Return to Course
• Click on the newly created activity link to make sure it’s functional
