Business Need / Purpose of Role:


To develop and qualify welding procedure specifications (WPS) and related
procedure qualification records (PQR), supervise and document welder
qualifications, work with welders, suppliers, 3rd party NDE personnel, to meet the
user's requirements
Objectives & Measurement
Key Responsibilities and Specific Accountabilities:
Including but not limited to:
 Advanced knowledge of the weldability of ASME P-No.
6,7,8,10A,B,C,Fmetals is required, including selecting the welding
process, filler metals, heat treatment, and post-welding NDE; weldability
knowledge of P-No. 41-44 would be an asset.
 Advanced knowledge of welding inspection and related NDE methods
(MT, UT, and RT), including ASME Sec. V, are required.
 Review project specifications for welding process, base metals, filler
metals, heat treatment, and NDE requirements; select appropriate WPS,
and if required, qualify a new WPS.
 Submit material and process selection recommendations to ensure
attainment for design objectives
 Develop and qualify new WPS/PQR when required
 Submit the selected WPS(s) and supporting PQR(s), welder qualification
records, and any additional information (e.g., weld maps, additional NDE
or inspection, cost exceptions, etc.) to the project manager for approval
 Periodic reviews of the company’s welding practices, as related to codes,
standards , and local regulations
 Welding metallurgy experience with PTA welding/GTAW/TIG/MIG/SAW
welding, knowledge of repair welding

Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s Engineering ( BE ) degree in metallurgical / materials or similar
technology with to seven years’ welding related experience OR Diploma with
Eight to Ten years’ experience. Preferably in Valve Industry.

 MS Office
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Special Skills :
 Membership of International Institute of Welding (TWI) ICorr and/or
NACE or AWS certified
