REFLECTION/SUMMARY

In this activity, I have learned about how to analyze the social functions of a number of personal
letters regarding the context of situation, the target receiver, and the points of interests or importance. I
have also learned to analyze the structure of each of the letters, including the layout, the detail
information, the lexico-grammatical features of personal letters by determining the choice of words and
expressions, the use of direct and indirect sentences, the tenses, the fonts, the punctuation marks, etc.

And also I have learned how to construct personal letters to address the social function, the structures, and
the lexico-grammatical features.

The key features of report texts to do with jobs include:

 Sentence Structure
Accuracy of grammar may be more important than an email. Most of the time, complete sentence
are expected

 Style
Language use may be personal. For example, first and second person pronouns may be frequently
used. May not be as formal as official letter writing.

 Use contractions
Example : he’s, she’s, haven’t, they’re

 Use gramatically correct sentences.

What I like most about this activity are:

 To compare the social functions of a number of personal letters regarding the context of situation,
the target receiver, the points of interests or importance as this material is really helping me to
improve my knowledge about personal letter.
 Learning to write and construct a personal letter by watching videos is really interesting.
 To read a number of personal letters meaningfully.
What I need to improve/learn more are:
 To construct a personal letter and respond to the letter according to their context of situation,
social function, text structure, and lexico-grammatical features.
 To construct some personal letters in different context of situation which address the social
function, the structures, and the lexico-grammatical features.
 I must read more about personal letter and analyses it.
