Praxis Core Analysis

If one is aspiring a profession in teaching you must pass the Praxis Core Exam. This test

is used to measure the candidate’s academic skills in reading writing and math. Not only is this a

requirement by some states to become licensed, but it is also used by colleges and universities to

determine admittance and continuing studies to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in education. In

Nevada, the Praxis Core Exam is timed and requires a passing score of 156 for reading, 150 for

math and 162 for writing.

I have yet to take the actual Praxis Core Exam. I read the information on the exam and

am aware of the required scores to pass the exam. I did take the practice test and must say I need

to study before taking the actual exam. I briefly read through some tips and skimmed through

some practice questions to have an idea of what would be on the practice exams. I think I was a

little overconfident in what I would remember how to do, mostly in the math exam.

For the practice Praxis Core Exam, I had similar results in all three exams. In reading, I

scored in the 41% range. In writing, I scored in the 58% range and math I scored in the 53%

range. This means I need significant improvement in order to pass the official Praxis Core Exam.

To further prepare for the Praxis Core Exam, I will use the free websites provided by this

course along with other online resources to study. I plan on going over the practice exam and

reviewing those questions so I can fully understand them and be able to provide the correct

answers. I also plan on working with other colleagues so we can prepare and study for the exam

together as this may provide new insights and approaches to questions that I may not see.
