Last week, we focused on the first law of motion which is the law of inertia.

It states that an object

subjected to motion will remain in motion and an object at rest will remain at rest. This week, we have
learned about the free-body diagram and the involvement of the second law of motion which is the law
of acceleration.

According to our discussion, we described free-body diagram as a sketch that depics an object as a point,
with all the forces acting on it drawn as vectors. We were advise to use a box or a dot to represent the
object in our free-body diagram and arrows to represent the direction. Also, we can summarize the law
of acceleration using the formula, F=ma, wherein it will give us an idea that the greater the mass, the
greater force must be applied to make the object accelerates. It is very easy to understand because our
teacher made use of simple situations where the second law is being applied. We were given different
sample problems for us to enhance our understanding about the concepts and how are we going to
apply those in an actual scenario.

But when our teacher told us to make a free-body diagram of a certain situation, I find it a bit confusing
because I don't know what type of force is being applied. For example, how will you know if thrust is
being applied to the object? This week, we had our short quiz regarding the Newton's Laws of Motion,
particularly the first law. And making a free-body diagram was included in the test which gave me a hard
time to answer. Still on the same week, we started our group reporting. Some of the formulas are
confusing but I always put on my mind not to neglect the four kinematic equations because these
formulas can only be manipulated and very useful everytime we are solving sample problems.

If there is something I want to add, I just want to emphasize that an active participation of each student
in the class is very essential. I also suggest to have more complicated sample problems during class
discussion and give more time when answering these kind of problems. This wil help us, students, to be
more prepared during exams.
