Paragraph 2:Race and Ethnicity

1.The metaphor “melting pot” means building


a new national identity and build a new
American Culture.
2.Non Anglo Whites of Europe were given
overdue recognition to achievements of
groups.
Non White Americans acquired more complex
and invigorating sense of the world and
themselves.
It didn’t melt everyone because the new
identity was inescapably English in language,
ideas, institutions.
3.(A) Cult of ethnicity erupted among both non
Anglo whites and among non white minorities.
(B) The new American identity did not
constitute white immigrants also.
(C) To prosper its economy, America started
to give recognition to all the subordinated as
well as minority groups who could be
beneficial for its economic growth.
4.Started giving recognition to the
achievements of subordinate and spurned
groups during the high noon of Anglo
dominance and acknowledged the world
beyond Europe. This was basically done to
uplift the subordinated groups beyond
Europe.
Americans acquired a more complex and
invigorating sense of their world and
themselves. This basically means that
Americans got to know about their self worth
and America’s power.
5.The conception of US as a nation of
individuals making their own choices. This
basically means that it rejects the historical
American goals of assimilation and
integration.
From creating a system of education from
“one people” into a means of promoting,
celebrating and perpetuating separate ethnic
origins and identities. This is basically means
that from a collective nation people were
splitting it into more ethnic societies.
6.The institution of unification should be the
primary place of assimilation and integration
as it is the basic and the most important thing
in building a nation which is integrated into
one nation.
