1.The metaphor “melting pot” means building
a new national identity and build a new American Culture. 2.Non Anglo Whites of Europe were given overdue recognition to achievements of groups. Non White Americans acquired more complex and invigorating sense of the world and themselves. It didn’t melt everyone because the new identity was inescapably English in language, ideas, institutions. 3.(A) Cult of ethnicity erupted among both non Anglo whites and among non white minorities. (B) The new American identity did not constitute white immigrants also. (C) To prosper its economy, America started to give recognition to all the subordinated as well as minority groups who could be beneficial for its economic growth. 4.Started giving recognition to the achievements of subordinate and spurned groups during the high noon of Anglo dominance and acknowledged the world beyond Europe. This was basically done to uplift the subordinated groups beyond Europe. Americans acquired a more complex and invigorating sense of their world and themselves. This basically means that Americans got to know about their self worth and America’s power. 5.The conception of US as a nation of individuals making their own choices. This basically means that it rejects the historical American goals of assimilation and integration. From creating a system of education from “one people” into a means of promoting, celebrating and perpetuating separate ethnic origins and identities. This is basically means that from a collective nation people were splitting it into more ethnic societies. 6.The institution of unification should be the primary place of assimilation and integration as it is the basic and the most important thing in building a nation which is integrated into one nation.
