4 The World of Digital Storytelling

Digital media and technologies are advanced rapidly and influencing science
communication processes. For science communication media production,
there are confrontations between science and communication, and
professional production and citizen-generated content. In this article, we
conducted an empirical study on science media production by using digital
storytelling and other supporting digital technologies. Based on Vygotsky’s
ZPD, we established a science communication undergraduate program in a
national university in Taiwan to facilitate students’ learning process on varies
science communication productions. We designed a task to synthesize
different media into the digital storytelling process as inquiry on students’
own understanding of science. Because of this understanding, the
productions themselves become meditation tools for students to complete
the communication process between different confrontation parties.

Ch. 7 Approaches to Scripting Prompts and Processes,

I paid special attention to "Approaches to The Scripting Process" since I'll be
writing the script for our collaborative project. I feel like I may be ahead of the
game since I (along with a couple others in this course) am taking a Creative
Writing course along with this one. Interestingly enough, right after this I have to
finish my assignment that focuses on language. So when I read the portion of
"Getting into the Scene" it made perfect sense to me. Lambert revises his story
about his father's death with language. He takes these facts and turns it into a
dramatic piece. "What differentiates these two texts for me is the fact that in the
second text, I am asking my audience to immediately journey in time with me to
the exact instant when it all really happened" (92). Bringing our audience into the
story is key - otherwise there's no connection.
