An organism that makes its own food and is a source
of energy for other organisms .The only organism to
take inorganic matter and make it organic to be used by other organisms in the ecosystem. Is the minimum system that includes and sustains life? Biotic and abiotic through which energy flows and there is nutrients cycling.
To provide energy to organisms in the ecosystem
To sustain life in a constant balance and provide the
necessary chemical elements required by the producer and decomposer
Organisms that cannot produce their own food so
therefore feed on other organisms.
Organisms that feed and break down organic
substances into smaller more useful nutrients
Is to obtain energy by feeding on other organisms
and sometimes transfer energy to other consumers. Is the rate at which energy is added to the bodies of a group of organisms (such as primary producers) in the form of biomass.
Energy flow and matter is recycled. Energy is transferred
from producer to primary, secondary and tertiary consumer. When an organism dies some of the energy is transferred to the decomposers and the rest is returned as raw nutrients to be used by the producers in an environment. The ecosystem also provides abiotic factors, such as light to assist with the productivity of the producers which in turn keeps the ecosystem productive also. In conclusion the biotic and abiotic factors work simultaneously to keep balance and sustain the flow of life. Are visual representations of energy flow, biomass accumulation, and number of individuals at different trophic levels. Represents flow of energy (rate at which energy is added) – represents amount of energy stored in living tissue (how much biomass is present in a trophic level) show how many individual organisms there are in each trophic level. They can be upright, inverted, or kind of lumpy, depending on the ecosystem.
