Biography of Aaron Siskind

Aaron Siskind was born in New York City on December 4, 1903. He

went to the City College of New York and graduated from there in 1926.

After graduating he became a high school English teacher before finding

his true passion for photography. In 1993, he joined a group of

photographers in the Film and Photo League in New York. He made

some of his most famous work there until he had some problems with

the organization. After he left the organization, he found some support

with painters who had recognized some of his pictures. From then on he

won awards and was a photography instructor at Chicago’s Institute of

Design. His work made photography more than just a representation and

gave a more introspective look into it.
