Request to Change Program of Study, add a Dual Degree, or add a Double Major
Complete this form and work with the relevant department chairs and/or program directors to obtain approval for the
desired program change. In an attached statement (no more than one page), please describe your reasons for wanting
to change your major or program of study, or to add a dual degree or double major. Before changes are approved the
applicant must meet with the academic advisor to review implications of the change on the overall length of stay in
the school (time to degree completion) and other potential unanticipated negative effects of the change.

Personal Statement
At the beginning of the year, I anticipated being a double major in music education and
saxophone performance. However, I knew that I wanted to attend graduate school to pursue
degrees in orchestral conducting since this is what I would ultimately like to do. As this year
progressed, I slowly realized that I would not have time in my schedule to pursue an independent
study in conducting, take lessons on piano, or work as a collaborative pianist with vocalists and
future career in orchestral conducting. If I were to major in music education, I fear that I would
not be able to delve into these areas a deeply as I would like to. For this reason, I would like to
change from a music education major to a performance major. The less intensive course load
would allow me to work more on piano and further develop my conducting skills so that I am
