D-Keep clear of me; I am maneuvering with difficulty.
E-I am altering my course to starboard.
C-Affirmative.
K-I wish to communicate with you.

Mid Ship Section

-The longitudinal strength of hull girder depends on the section modulus of the midship
section. This in turn depends on the scantlings and layout of the structural members in
the midship region. The midship region extends one forth length of the ship forward
and aft of midship.
DELTA-Keep clear of me; I am maneuvering with difficulty.
Sierra-I am operating astern propulsion. With one or more numerals, speed in knots.

CARGO HOLDS
-A ship cargo hold is an enclosed space within a ship designed for storing cargo such
as coal, grain or salt. It usually lies under the deck of a ship and can hold anything from
20 tonnes to 200,000 tones. The purpose of a ship cargo hold is to protect cargo while it
is transported to its destination. Access is usually gained by a large hatch at the top of
the hold, and the cargo can be either loaded in crates or left unpacked.
DRY CARGO SHIPS-A cargo ship or freighter ship is a merchant ship that
carries cargo, goods, and materials from one port to another. Thousands
of cargocarriers ply the world's seas and oceans each year, handling the bulk of
international trade.
BULK CARRIER-A bulk carrier, bulk freighter, or colloquially, bulker is a merchant ship
specially designed to transport unpackaged bulk cargo, such as grains, coal, ore, and
cement, in its cargo holds.
GENERAL CARGO VESSELS- used to move packaged merchandise from one location
to another. Due to the vast range of cargo materials, these ships are often designed
specifically for the cargo which they will carry. Cranes and other heavy equipment
needed to move, load and unload cargo are usually on-board.
CONTAINER VESSELS-main way of transporting manufactured goods around the
world. A container can be transferred between truck, train and ship relatively easily and
is a standard size to simplify transportation. Containers can accommodate anything
from foodstuffs to electrical equipment to automobiles. Containers are also used to
transport bagged and palletised goods, liquids and refrigerated cargo.
REEFER VESSELS-A reefer ship is a refrigerated cargo ship, typically used to transport
perishable commodities which require temperature-controlled transportation, such as
fruit, meat, fish, vegetables, dairy products and other foods.
Roll-on/roll-off ships-vessels-designed to carry wheeled cargo, such as cars, trucks,
semi-trailer trucks, trailers, and railroad cars, that are driven on and off the ship on their
own wheels or using a platform vehicle, such as a self-propelled modular transporter.
Liquid cargo ships-ships which carry cargo in liquid form. Possible cargoes are
crude oil, oil products like gasoline, vegetable oil, wine, orange juice, acids, chemical
substances, gas under ambient temperatures and atmospheric pressure and etc. These
are all carried in different type of liquid cargo vessels.
Passenger ship-a merchant ship whose primary function is to carry passengers on the
sea. The category does not include cargo vessels which have accommodations for
limited numbers of passengers
Livestock carrier-A livestock carrier is a large ship used in the live export of sheep,
cattle and goats. They are specially built new or converted from container ships.

Coaming-is any vertical surface on a ship designed to deflect or prevent entry of water.
It usually consists of a raised section of deck plating around an opening, such as a
hatch.

Oscar- Man overboard (often attached to the man overboard pole on boats).
Alpha-I have a diver down; keep well clear at slow speed.
Mike-My vessel is stopped and making no way through the water.
India-I am altering my course to port.
November-Negative.
Golf-I require a pilot. When made by fishing vessels operating in close proximity on the
fishing grounds it means: "I am hauling nets".
STRUCTURE-designed not only to give hull the required strength to withstand the
weight of the cargo, but also to withstand the external hydrostatic loads that act on the
bottom of the hull. A ship's hull is basically made up of bent plates welded together.
Sierra-I am operating astern propulsion. With one or more numerals, speed in knots.
Tango-Keep clear of me; I am engaged in pair trawling.
Romeo-Keep clear of me; I am engaged in pair trawling.
