Casing is a steel pipe specifically designed for use in oil and gas wells which generally serves to

strengthen the walls of the wellbore at a certain depth. Decreasing the casing into the wellbore is
done one by one and between one stem of the casing and the other rods are connected by a screw
system or drad.

Casing Function In a drilling, casing has several functions including:

Prevents the collapse of the borehole wall, Prevents contamination of ground water by drilling
mud, Closes abnormal and lost pressure zones, Maintains diameter of the borehole to remain,
Prevents direct connection between formations, BOP position and production equipment.

In the petroleum world, naming casings is based on the function of the casings. The naming of
casing based on its function is as follows:

Conductor casing, Surface casing, Intermediate casing, Production casing, Liner Casing.

Casing is a scamelas pipe made from carbon steel and metal alloys (alloy) so that it meets the
needs in accordance with its function. This alloy metal is usually in the form of tungsten carbide
or moledenum. During drilling takes place the installation of casings at certain intervals, the
number and size of casing used varies greatly depending on the con
