Course Plan
Course: Plain and Reinforced Concrete - II (CE3453)
Course: Plain and Reinforced Concrete - I (CE3443)
Credit hrs: 03 hrs (Contact hrs: 03 hr) i.e. 1.5 hrs Two Lectures per Week
Home-work hrs: 06-09 hrs per Week
Course Instructor: Engr. Dr. Majid Ali
Email: majid.ali@cust.edu.pk
Helping Hours: Monday to Thursday (Break Time)
General Instructions:
You are doing a professional degree. BE PROFESSIONAL IN ATTITUDE.
Do home-work on time.
o If you are spending the suggested time on home-work and are unable to get
the concept, then contact the course instructor (because you are not studying
in the right direction).
o If you are spending half of the suggested time and are confident that you are
understanding well, then contact the course instructor (because you are not
studying in the right direction).
Attendance will be marked within first two minutes. Be on time.
Follow discipline.
Cheating/fraud will not be tolerated.
Course Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the course, the student will be able:
CLO:1 to report on the concepts of earthquake-resistant design, retrofitting and
pre-stressing of RC structures including their step-wise procedures for
simple cases. (C5) PLO-1 30%
CLO:2 to design miscellaneous and complex RC structural members under
different conditions (i.e. loadings, boundary etc) by manual calculations. (C6) PLO-03 40%
CLO:3 to seek clarification and justify (i) step-wise procedures for earthquake-
resistant design, retrofitting, pre-stressing and (ii) manual gravity designs
of miscellaneous and complex RC members. (A3) - 15%
CLO:4 to develop (i) finite element model of simple RC structure under
seismic loadings & its structural detailing using computer programs
(e.g. ETABS/SAFE/AUTOCAD) & (ii) models for design of
miscellaneous & complex RC members using software. - - 15%
