Complete the following exercises as directed by your instructor.


1) What type of computer system do you use in class lab or at home? How much can you tell
about the system by looking at it? List as much information as you can about the computer.
a) Is it a desktop or tower model?
b) What company manufactured the computer?
c) What type of processor does it have?
d) What external devices does it have?
e) Is it connected to a network or printer?
f) How much data can you store on the C: drive?
g) How much RAM (physical memory) is on the computer?
h) What type of operating system (OS Name) is on the computer?
i) Is there any CD or DVD drive? If yes what is the specification?

2) What kind of software is installed on your computer? To find out, all you have to do is turn
on your computer. After it starts, you should see a collection of icons—small pictures that
represent the programs and other resources on your computer. List the icons that appear on
your screen and the names of the software programs they represent.

3) Select an industry like (Manufacturing, Service-Oriented, Education, Hospital) to discuss at


least four advantages /roles performed by Information Technology in their business
environment.
4) Technology in Health Care:
Your primary care physician is moving from a shared office so that he can open his own
practice. He mentioned that he would like to use technology in his office that not only will
improve the patient experience, but also make his job easier. Determine the types of
technology your doctor can use in his new office. Find out the ways that technology can help
improve patient check-in and billing. Find out the types of technology your doctor can use
while he is working with patients. Also find out any additional technology that can be used in
the office to improve the patient experience. Compile your findings in a report and submit it
to your instructor.

5) Case Study: Amateur Sports League You are the new manager for a nonprofit amateur soccer
league. The previous manager tracked all of the data on paper. You realize that using
technology will increase your efficiency and enable you to communicate better with the
board of directors, coaches, and players. At the board’s next meeting, you will share ideas of
how you will use technology.

Do This:
To prepare for the meeting, you compile the following: differences between input and output,
a list of the types of data you can use as input, and a list of the types of information you can
produce as output. You include the types of computers, mobile devices, and other
technologies you will use to enter data and produce the information. Incorporate your own
experiences and user reviews of the devices. Compile your findings.
