Prerequisites for UH program


 Anatomy and Physiology (for communication)
 Phonetics
 Speech Language Development
 Speech and or Language Disorders (can be children or adults)
 Audiology
 Aural Rehabilitation
 Speech Science
 Clinical Procedures (clinical method courses: professionalism, ethics, diagnostic process,
therapy planning)
 Must have a B minus or better
 In order to apply for the graduate program, you must have grades in 12 hours of these
courses.
 You apply, take these courses, and reapply to the graduate program.

Post Baccalaureate Program


 Take it in the summer
 Takes care of all the Prerequisites for UH
 All majors
 2 long terms and summer

 Must have a 2.8 GPA to apply
 Starts in the fall
 Part time is possible
 No Promises- You have to reapply to the graduate program

 All on campus: in person classes at UH. You can mix and match the prerequisites via
online but seems like it is not recommended.

Course Work:

Part Time Options:


 Students who have been accepted into the program can opt for part time
 7-8 terms
 Graduate at the end of the third year

Clinical Practica:
 5 semesters of practica are required
 These are both at UH clinic
 And the externships around the city
 Clinic is diverse in age, race, gender, disorders, and ethnicity.

Specialty Concentrations
 Not for credit but can work with a professor in an interest area
 Choose a faculty mentor
 Independent study
 3 hours of electives go to the project

Thesis option:
 Master’s Thesis
 Work with a faculty member
 3 hour course of Thesis in summer
 Take 3 hour of thesis in spring

Externships:
 In the second and third year students have 2 externship placements
 Full time practicum 930-60 hrs/wk)
 Externship contracts all over city

Scholarships and assistance is not heavy. Only a few: apply when accepted
