This time period will always be remembered in your life, bundled with many exciting and sweet memories. Living in a hostel requires high degree of integrity, consciousness, cooperation, tolerance and discipline. Students, who successfully complete their stay in the hostel become independent and responsible human beings. Hostels at Chandigarh University can be rightly called a “Home Away From Home”. Our hostels provide the most conducive environment for student's holistic development. We ensure that students dwell in a healthy environment that helps them TO GROWAND LEARN with any kind of obstacle. The hostels have well furnished rooms equipped with the necessary facilities and amenities. The University hostel has aesthetic surroundings and hygienic conditions. The hostels being within the campus offer a secure abode and are designed to provide optimum utilization of student's time for their overall development and successin all activities. Furniture Each Room has the capacity to accommodate four to five students. The University provides beds, inbuilt study tables, chairs, almirah, Lights, desert coolers & Duct air cooling facilities. Students may bring small items of personal usage to the room like side table, dustbin etc. but no large items are to be brought. Students should keep their rooms neat and clean at all times. They will be jointly or individually responsible for the furniture and fixtures present in their rooms at the time of allotment of the room. If a student observes any damage or defect in the furniture or fixtures issued in his room or find anything missing at the time of occupying the room, it will be his duty to bring it to the notice of the Warden. If the student does not point out any deficiency it will be presumed that everything is inorder. Note: At the time of possession, student needs to ensure that all above mentioned items are present in the room; if not the student should report immediately to the hostel warden. At the time of vacating the hostel, the student needs to handover all the above mentioned items in serviceable condition. 1 Electricity Regular supply of electricity is provided to the students in all weathers. Our hostels have 24X7 DG Back power incase of power failure. Every month fixed units of electricity (175 units in summer and 50 units in winter) are free per room; beyond this hostellers have to pay the electricity bill as per separate meter provided for eachroom. Chandigarh University have fifteen Boy's hostel in number on the name of some well known icons of India as follows: Le Corbusier Hostel (A, B,C, D): Named after the architect, who designed the remarkable city beautiful - Chandigarh of the 20th century reflects his belief that anyone can reinvent oneself. The student away from room, find the place relaxing and self sufficient itself. Nek Chand Hostel (NC 1toNC6): It is named after the much beautifully designed with all necessary facilities to make it home away from home, celebrated creator of Rock Garden. The hostel comprises Six Towers. The hostel reminds the inmates of the beauty and artistic creativity of the famous personality in his work. Zakir Hostel (A&B): The name remind us about our 3rd President, the eminent politician and celebrated educationist We wish the boarders to evolve students as knowledgeable, practicable and refined personalities. Gobind Abode Hostel (A&B): Itis a very comfortable and homely hostel where all the facilities are available. It is givena blessed home forthe students to be in the abode of almighty. City Hostel: It provides all the comforts & facilities to the students as they are staying in their home. Our hostel offers much more than a bed and a shower to the hostellers. We provide the melting pots of multiculturalism from which each student takes away new thoughts, ideas and most of all new friends for life. Note: Rooms of different capacities namely 4 beds &3 beds are available. 2 ROOM ALLOTMENT + Hostelrooms are allocated online. + Studentwill receive the message of room allotment through SMS/E-mail. + — Student ofsame branchwill be allotted a room together. * Oncetheroomisallotted, it can be changed only under exceptional circumstances or after 30 days with the due approval of General Manager- Hostels + Roomsareallotted as perthe availability and on first come first serve basis + Foreign/NRI students may reserve their rooms in advance. + The roomallotted to the student will be cancelled if he fails to occupy the room within a specified time. + Onceastudent vacates the hostel on his wish, oris told to leave the hostel due to any circumstances, he will not be re-allotted hostel accommodation. Re- Allotment ‘As the room allotment is for one year. Every year, re-allotment process is conducted online through CUIMS at the beginning of the academic year. Rooms are allotted on the basis of senior most batches to junior most batches from second floorto higher levels subsequently. HOSTEL MESS The hostels are equipped with a fully functional mess to provide nutritious and hygienically prepared food to the students. A separate mess for each hostel has been provided. Vegetarian as well as Non- vegetarian food is served in the hostels. Students, coming from various parts of the country bring with them different flavors and cultures. This is also demonstrated in the diverse tastes they have for food. To meet these diverse needs, the menu is carefully planned to suit the taste buds ofall the students in the hostel. Mess Rules: + Oncea student joins the hostel, he will have meals inthe mess as long as he remains onrolls ofthe Hostel. * Strict discipline and proper decorum will be maintained in the Dining Hall. + Nostudentis authorized to visit the kitchen or store area. + Nostudentto eat his meals in any other hostel mess except that allotted to him. + — Forbetter facilities and to streamline the system of taking food, aQRcode scanning system will be introduced soon in allthe messes. Student will have to show the generated QR code on his mobile application to the Warden/Mess supervisor to avoid any unauthorized students to have meals inmess. + Menuwill be designed by the Students’ and approved by the Mess Committee. + Mess Committee ensures availability and liking of vegetables/fruits according to the weather. + Changesinthe menu will be made only with the prior permission of the GM- Hostels. + Menuwill beimportantly displayed on all Hostel Notice Boards. + Inmates can entertain their parents as guests on prior information to the hostel authorities as perthe hostel rules, + — Incaseastudentis sick, food can be taken to the room only with the permission of the warden. + Youarenot expected to waste the food. 4 The system of self service will be followed in all the hostel mess. Allhostellers shall bring hostel ID card to dine every time in the mess. Students will adhere to the laid down Mess Timings. Misbehaving with Faculty Warden/Mess staff will be treated as an indiscipline actandis punishable. Itshall be our endeavour to provide not only good quality food but also variety of food to the satisfaction of students and students should not consider this as their right but should rather considera privilege. There is wide participation by the hostellers in various sports activities both at the University and inter-University levels. For these enthusiastic sports lovers of the university, we organize an annual sports meet. Apart from the annual meet, the Inter Departmental Tournaments are also conducted in various games like Chess, Football, Badminton, Table Tennis, Volleyball and Cricket etc. Gym Facility: Well equipped gyms with Gym Trainer are made available for hostellers with all the latest facilities. Gym Timings: Morning 6:00 am to 8:30 am Evening 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm Guest Room: Well furnished Guest Rooms are available for student's guardians, in case they need to stay overnight. Parents are allowed to stay only for one night. Visitor's Room: There is a Visitor's Room in the hostel for student's guardians. Visitors are not permitted in the hostel after 7.00 p.m. However, in special cases, prior permission of Chief Warden must be obtained to stay beyond these hours. Visiting Days and Time: On working days 4:30 PM. to 7:00 PM On weekends/Holidays 10:00 AM. to 7:00 PM Tuck Shops: Tuck Shops are available which are stocked with day-to-day requirements of the inmates. The students can be at an ease to purchase things from these shops. Bank Facility: ATM facility of PNB, SBI, HDFC, J&K Bank is available within the university premises. The branches of SBI & J&K Banks are also operating in the 6 campus. Medical Facilities: There is a fully functional dispensary on the campus with doctors and nurses both male and female. Ambulances are available 24x7 for the odd hours and emergency. First Aid kits are also available with every warden in the hostels. Sick Rooms are also available in the hostels. Reading Halls: Each hostel is provided with special reading facility where students can study late at night. Silence should be maintained in reading Halls at alltime. Recreation Room: Each hostel has a recreation room with projectors/home theaters/LCDs with a capacity of over 250 students. Wi-Fi Facility: The hostel is Wi-Fi enabled. All the students are provided unique IDs forinternet access. Transport Facility: Students can go for personal outing with the permission of hostel authorities. On weekends, the permission from the warden is sufficient but during week days, permission from departmental heads is also required. Hot & Cold Water: Water coolers are provided in the hostel on every floor to meet the drinking water needs of the students. The hostel has been provided with the water purifying facility that supplies totally pure and safe water. Security: Chandigarh University provides round the clock security in the Hostel Premises. Laundry Facility: Laundry Facility is provided to Hostel Residents at Reasonable Rates. 24x7 Help and Support: If any student is facing any problem he can dial a 24x7 helpline number 08038110011. Complaint Procedure: The Student can follow the mention procedure for any sort of hostel complaints onCUIMS: CUIMS => Navigation => Student Welfare => Hostel Complaint Maintenance Hostel Care Centre: To facilitate the students for queries and concerns, CU provides Hostel Care Centre in hostels. Students can lodge the complaints regarding accommodation, mess, room facilities or any other issues while residing in the hostel. Various events like dance, songs, and plays are organized during the party. A boy student from the fresher's is selected as Mr. Fresher. Other Activities: Various other activities like DJ Party, Debate Competition and Expert talks etc are organized to inculcate healthy habits in the students. Festival Celebrations: University is significantly known of its unity in diversity. Keeping this in view, the boarders fill the hostels with colours of integrity every festival. Note: No celebration without prior permission of Concerned Authority is allowed. COMMITTEES Mess Committee: Mess Committee of the hostel is formed with a view to incorporate the views and ideas of the students related to the menu served. The committee acts as a channel for smooth exchange of views between the administration and the students. It is a student led committee comprising of 15 students and the respective wardens. The mess menu is prepared collectively by the mess Committee under the supervision of the GM - Hostels & GM - F&B. The complete menuis reviewed every quarter and monthly menus are decided. Health & Hygiene Committee: Hygiene committee of the hostel is formed witha view to supervise the hygienic conditions in hostels and the subsequent mess. It deals with various activities of maintenance and improvement of hostel amenities. It also helps in following up the various hostels complaints and ensures that complaints are properly addressed and resolved. In addition to this, hostel committee keeps a check on the hostel environment 9 and conducts various checks like regular room cleaning pest control, cleaning of water tanks etc. in comprises of all the wardens and student representatives from the respective hostel. GENERAL RULES Hostel session starts from 1 july to 30 june every year. Every Hostellers needs to mark biometric between 7:30 pm and 8.30pm every night. Going out of the hostel after allowed time willleadtoa disciplinary action. The student shall return to the hostel before 10:00pm after which gates will be closed. The gates will reopen at 6.00 a.m. the next day. Late comers will have to make an entry in the register keptat the University Main gate, which will be informed to their Hostel Warden, their parents and local guardians. The studentis permitted to go out of station for participating in various competitions only after submitting proof and application. The studentwill intimate the Warden and make an entry in the Night out Register kept with the Warden. The student shall take prior permission of the General Manager for celebrating any festival and birthday. Birthday celebration should be done at acommon place for one to two hours preferably between 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm &thattoin Mess. The student will always carry their Identity cards provided to them by the University when moving out of the Campus, so that the University can be contacted and informed in case of an emergency. Visitors/parents are allowed to visita student only in the visitor's lobby on the ground of every Hostel. The student shall keep their rooms, verandah and surrounding areas tidy, neat and clean atalltimes and shall not throw anything including trash, in such places or any premises in the hostel, exceptin the dustbin or the place specifically provided for the said purpose. No wet clothes should be dried on the furniture orin corridors. The warden may confiscate any such clothes hung for drying in the corridors. Students are advised to keep their valuables under lock and key. Itis mandatory for all inmates to register their laptops and install licensed antivirus software. Students are responsible for their belongings. Any negligence on their part will be their sole responsibility. Students of each room are jointly and independently responsible forthe furniture, fittings, etc. Any damage to the hostel property is recoverable from them. 11 13. 14. 15. 16. 17. 18. 19. 20. 21. 22. 23. 24. 25. 26. 27. 28. 29. 30. Incase an individual is notidentified with respect to the damage doneto the property, a collective fine on all concerned students can be imposed to recoverthe cost of damage to the property. Students may be expelled from the hostel for violation of rules and misconduct suchas: theft, ragging, abnormal behavior, use of drugs and alcohol, indiscipline etc. Students should follow the daily routine and schedule as per the hostel rules and the time table of the departments. Students will not be allowed to stay back in their rooms orin the hostel premises during the university teaching hours. No studentis allowed to keep any type of medicine in his possession without itbeing prescribed by the medical officer ofthe campus. Students, who are undergoing any treatment at home, should provide the medical history to the warden and the Medical Officer. Students have to inform their respective wardens regarding any change in their parental/native address and contact number. No studentis allowed to invite day scholar to the hostel premises. Students who do not fulfill 75% of attendance as per norms can be asked to vacate the hostel, without any refund. No student will organize any kind of meetingin the premises to unite or instigate students for any kind of violent activity against the university. CU authorities, Chief Hostel Warden, and Sr. Hostel Wardens reserve the right to carry out surprise checks at any desired time during the day/night. No student should disregard his seniors and never be aggressive to his juniors The notice board is provided in the hostel premises to apprise the students about any information sent by the authorities. Suggestions/Complaints related to food and other hostel services should be reported to the hostel warden. No studentis allowed to take utensils from the mess to his room if any utensils are found in the room, then appropriate fine willbe charged. Pets are strictly prohibited in the hostel. No studentis allowed to keep his personal conveyance in the hostel premises. During the training period comprising of full semester the students willbe exempted from paying the mess charges. Students should not change/exchange the rooms without the prior written permission from General Manger. 12 31. Allthe rooms, walls, doors & windows should be kept clean and tidy. No posters or photographs should be pasted on room walls/doors/cupboards. 32. Residents must switch off fans and lights whenever they go out of their rooms soas to save electricity. Defaulters can be penalized. 33. Residents should notissue orders to hostel employees or interfere in their functioning. Misconduct by hostel employees, ifany, should be reported in Department of Student Welfare. 34. Atalltimes, especially between 11 pmto6 am, hostellers shall not create any disturbance by playing loud music, etc. This period has to be treated as study/rest hours. 35. Allthe hostel residents are expected to know the rules and regulations. Pleadingignorance of the same at any stage will not be accepted. 36. Those students who will leave hostel facility are required to take their belongings back to their places (within 24 hours) after end of semester examination. Study Room Rules: * — Using mobile phones inside study roomis strictly prohibited. + Makesure thatyou don'tcreate any nuisance for others in the study room. + Before comingorleavingthe study room, kindly make yourentry inthe register, + Switch offthe fans and tube lights before leaving the study room. Leave Rules: 01. Ahosteller can availa day leave from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM during summers, 7:00 AM to 06:00 PM during winter. 02. Day leave during the five working days can be taken with due permission of theconcerned HOD. 03. Duringweekends/holidays, permission from warden is sufficient. 04. Night out leave is given to the hostellers when they wish to go home to see theirparents orlocal guardian. 05. Studentcan leave the campus only with the prior permission taken from their warden in writing. Students have to show the same permission at the gate before leaving. 13 06. Students should get their leave booklet signed by their warden at least one night before. The warden shall contact the parents and confirm the date and time of his leave. On return itis mandatory for students to get their leave booklet duly signed by their parents and also getit signed at the gate of University Campus. Note: If a student does not report back after allotted period of leave, his roomallotment willbe cancelled. Gate Pass Timing Monday to Friday 04:00 pm to 05:30 pm Holiday 10:00 am to 12:00 pm 14 HOSTEL LEAVING PROCEDURE Ifstudent does not want to continue the hostel facility at the end of academicsession, the student has to fillaconsent form online through CUIMS. Ifstudent surrenders his seat during the academic session, he willtake permission from the respective warden with the consent of parents. No refund will be made at that time. 15 DOCUMENTS REQUIRED 1. Allprospective candidates are required to procure the Hostel Rule Book of information for new admission by fillingin and submitting the 'Hostel Admission Form'. 2. Alladmissions to the Hostel are made strictly on the basis availability of seats and first come first serve basis. 3. Onceadmitted to the University, eligible students can apply fora seatin the Hostel. 4. Theapplicant must attach the following documents (Photocopy) with the application form(Checklist): + Photo copy of university& hostel Fee Receiptissued by Accounts Office. * 4copies of passport size photographs of the student, parents and 2 copies each of visitors and local guardian. * Photo copy of marriage certificate for married students. * — Photo copy of ID Proof of parents and local guardian are required. Note: Candidates must be accompanied by their Parents/Local Guardians at the time of admission; for a local guardian an authentic authorization from the parents is required. In no case the local guardian shall bea student. 16 LIST OF ITEMS REQUIREDAT THE TIME OF JOINING * — Onelockwith5 keys forthe room.
