Operating The System
Prior to deploying, the system should be function tested by using a test pipe of a
suitable diameter. An example would be a plastic pipe 1metre in length and
about 150mm in diameter and one end capped. The pipe placed in a vertical
position and filled with water, place the transducer into the open end ensuring
there are no air bubbles trapped on the transducer face. Set the display diameter
to 1.5metre and check the resulting reading, it should be the same length as the
water column, you should also see a blue bar on the A scan display at the said
distance. Re-check at different diameters to verify the unit is functioning
correctly.
Prior to carrying out the Inspection, the area where the Transducer has to be
placed must be free of any marine growth.
The Transducer is then placed face to face with the member under test.
The surface operator then selects the area on the computer’s graphic display of
the member by moving the mouse curser to the desired position, then left clicks
the mouse, a box appears on screen. Click on get latest reading and then “ADD”
reading. See Fig 4
Fig 4
Once you have selected the area on the graphics and pressed “ADD” an end view
of the member will be displayed in a small box and it’s position is marked with a
band on the member. It also displays if there is any flooding present. See Fig 5
