on August 16, 2019 at CDONHS-JHS gate.
Around three
students were slightly injured
in a stampede incident at
Cagayan de Oro National
High School-Junior High
School (CDONHS-JHS)
gate on August 16, 2019.
The said incident
happened along with the
Mass Induction that was
participated by the PTA
officers of each class held
at the school ground.
There were no
instructions given by the
school principal, Mr. William
C. Agomana, for students’
early dismissal while the
induction was going on
but students gradually
obstructed the gateway
wanting to go out by twelve
noon though the official
dismissal time for Basic
Education Curriculum (BEC)
and special programs are still
two o’clock and three o’clock
in the afternoon, respectively.

Thievery is common
in public places where
there are lots of people
and less attention is
observed, but schools are
no exception. Students
are educated and should
know the basic values.
Money is the main reason
why they steal these items.
The money they get is
used for buying liquor,
cigarettes, and even drugs.
In some cases, they
use the money for the needs
of their families. Wallets
are also commonly stolen.

took her to the clinic.
After almost an hour, the
clinic-in-charge saw that
she was already able to
handle herself to go home.
The mother
complained that she was not
even informed by the school
about what happened to her
daughter and addressed her
concerns to the principal’s
office about the lapses of
the school. According to her,
it was just a couple of days
that Ashley was discharged
from the hospital when
the incident happened.

and explained the school
policies and security
One case involves a student
where he stole a teacher’s
wallet and used the money
to buy things. The wallet
was found at a cemetery
later on and the suspected
student was called on to the
office. His aunt went to talk
but due to sheer shame,
his aunt never came.
A rare case involves
kleptomaniacs where these
kinds of people cannot refrain
from the urge for stealing
items and is usually done for
reasons other than personal
use or financial gain.
Three students were
suspected as kleptomaniacs
and according to Mr.
Severino Cantorne from
the Prefect of Discipline,
they would often reply that
measures to the mother,
and was able to determine
the slip of the school and
her daughter’s lapses.
An ambulance was
called to rush the
student to the hospital.
Due to the incident,
Mr. Agomana announced
a change in the class
schedule. The BEC will start
at 7a.m. and end at 3p.m.

Journalism (SPJ), Special
Program in the Arts (SPA),
Science and Technology
Engineering (STE),
Strengthened Technical
Vocational Educational
Program (STVEP) and
Special Program for Gifted

Monday but the boy did
not show up since then.

reports of three students who were
caught from an attempt of bringing
pocket knives inside the campus.
With the initiative of the
school’s security personnel, Citizen
Army Training (CAT) and Prefect of
Discipline had already confiscated
pointy-headed materials and dangerous
sharpies like markers and scissors.

Every month of
August marks Higalaay
Festival celebrating the
feast of patron saint of
the city- St. Augustine at
Cagayan de Oro City.
Higalaay festival means
“Friendship Festival”,
which the word “Higalaay”
comes from the Cebuano
word “higala” (friend) which
tagged Cagayan de Oro the
City of Golden Friendship.
This indicates that Kagay-
anons ( people living in
Cagayan de Oro) are
hospitable and friendly.
The festival was
composed of various core
events such as Floats and
Parade, Pyro Festival,
Drum and Bugle Lyre,
Danztrack, etc.
One of the highlights
of the said celebration was
the Higalaay Parade. The
parade was full of amazing
events that made the
crowd say "Wow ka tsada,"
a famous expression of
kagay-anons.
The spokeperson
of Cagayan de Oro Police
Office, Major Viñas, said
that more than 10,000
students, government
employees, soldiers, and
priest joined the said event.
One of the highlights
of the parade was the
drum and Lyre. Tons of
contestants joined and 130
schools and organizations

popularity of Korean-pop is

T
hese two are being
laid to us every
day. Every choice
has a corresponding
consequence — it could be
for good or the opposite.
Amidst the choices we have
and the freedom to make a
choice comes remorse and
change to bring back what
is lost and begin again at
some other point.
This is the story of
Angela [not her real name],
eighteen years old, who has
been involved into a typical
trade between a dream and
momentary happiness.
“Lisod kaayo to

Angela when she was
asked about their life living
with their stepfather. Her
father died when she was
still seven years old; leaving
her and her three siblings
under the care of their

They lived a tough
life. Angela, together
with her female siblings,
survived each day shunning
the indecent actions of
their stepfather. “Wala man
pud mi niya na hilabtan.

maligo,” she added. They
tried to let their mother know
about it but she refused to
believe them.
Angela admits of
not being born with a silver
spoon in her mouth. Despite
the struggle of her family
to meet their basic needs,
she makes sure she will do
best in school. She was a
consistent honor student
way back in elementary
and graduated as class
valedictorian.
Since they were
financially challenged
that time, she decided to
discontinue her studies and
work as a vendor at Agora
Market.
After two years, she
went back to school and
found herself thriving again
in the field of academics.
She was an honor student
during her first year.
Transferring to Cagayan de
Oro National High School
(CDONHS) was not that
difficult until she found what
she considered as friends.
It was then she learned
to do things that were
different to what she used
to do; and subsequently
drowned herself amidst the
temptations.
Friends over books,
time spent on nonsense
conversations; and worst,
inhaling harmful solvent-
rugby. These are just some
of the trades she made in
lieu of a brighter future she
successfully built for years.
The time she lose sight of
what she considered as a
guide towards achieving
her distant goal. “Dili nako

known yet and a thrilling
beacon towards what
we might soon discover.
Curiosity has two points:
one pointed towards what
we desire and what we
have not yet obtained – and
may never obtain.
According to one of
the most prominent theories

curiosity arises when a
person notices a gap in her
knowledge, which in turn
motivates her to fill the gap.
However, things

she knew she was carrying

good mother and to raise a

Things may not

Anxiety is a normal

that most teenagers like
students would experience.
However, when a
student regularly feels
disproportionate levels of
anxiety, it might become a
medical disorder.
These feelings of
anxiety and panic interfere
with daily activities, are
difficult to control, are out
of proportion to the actual
danger and can last a long
time.
Anxiety disorders
form a category of mental
health diagnoses that lead
to excessive nervousness,
fear, apprehension, and
worry.
Moreover, this
disorder affect 25.1% of
children between 13 and 18
years old. Research shows
that untreated children
with anxiety disorders are
at higher risk to perform
poorly in school, miss
out on important social
experiences, and engage
in substance abuse.
These disorders
alter how a student
processes emotions and
behave, also causing
physical symptoms. Mild

affect day-to-day living.
