FOUNDATION PLAN – PROJECT COORDINATOR

Rural youth is a Project founded by the European Union, developed by FUNDACION PLAN and CETEC
that seeks to generate economic opportunities for young people in the territory so that they can
develop their life projects.

All the actions of the project seek to strengthen the gender equality in associations among youth
people, through the incursion into new productive activities in which work is valued equally

power charges or representations of organizations, are always the men who exercise.

To the extent that from homes for example, there are girls who still doesn't study because they have to
take care of the younger siblings, or parents don’t cheer them up to study arguing that their purpose is
to get married and have sons, and in the whole community gets powered the duty of men over
women, so I think that in all spaces we have many inequalities.

In my community one of the main gender inequalities that I’ve seen, for example, is that the women
wage is lower than men, that’s gender inequality for me.

PROJECT RURAL YOUTH – PARTAKER

In the association that I'm part of, we have achieved an impact in the women, now we have a female
empowerment within the association, before there was a large amount of men and now is the
opposite, we've made a great effort to bring down those stereotypes that men and women must do
certain activities, to we can all complement each other in order to work together.

Personally, the Youth rural process has strengthen me, I was able to emphasize and I was able to
develop the life project for myself and my children, I have also been able to develop my productive
project, I am growing panela cane, organic cane and it is one hectare, I think that in 8 months that will
be contributing to my family's economy and will also strengthen my leadership.

Dialog 7

Olmedo Giraldo

The most important activities that have been promoted with a gender perspective have been to be
able to transmit to the women who participate in these processes, that they must be replicators, that
they must assume leadership so that their associations and their communities can live process
experiences pointing to autonomy exercises.

Those possibilities that women have and that they exercise but that are not recognized as generators
of development, then there are women shopkeepers, at the restaurant, the hairdresser and they are
alone, like they been working in the shadows, we have to start making these activities visible.

Women believe, believe in yourselves, when you believe in yourselves, you create a different world for
all of us.

Maritza

As a result of this exercise in the associations we find young people who have begun to enter projects
that have been traditionally masculine, with a level of efficiency and performance on equal terms than
men, in order to establish more equitable relationships at this time and in the future.

Currently, community associations have been developing actions for gender equality in each of their
communities.

ASSOSIATION EL PORVENIR DE SAN RAFAEL – PRESIDENT

Here in our communities the gender inequality grow a lot, so I try that what I learned there, replicates
here, and that our women become aware of that we will be empowered, that we too are worthy and
have the right to have an opinion.

Dialog 13

Jelen

I have learned to be an enterprising woman empowered of my territory, of things as such that we do in

the field, I have changed in my way of being because I was very shy, now I want to comment
everywhere. The strategy I want to implement here in my community is, raise awareness among young
people that we should not be ashamed of what we farmers are, to invite them to be part of our node,
to invite them to work together so we can make union and strengthen us, so that we do not allow our
young people to continue emigrating from the countryside, and be that support and help to move
forward
