Read Operating and Safety Manual Before Using Any Winch! BRAKE ADJUSTMENT FREQUENCY: Brake adjustment should be checked dally during heavy use or after one (1) nour of winch operation. Inspection of Dako shoes and drum for woar should be made after every ten (10) hours of winch operation. PROCEDURE: To Adjust Brakes: 1 Remove load from winch cable. 2 Remove sprocket, coupler, universal Joint, or motor trom input shat of winch, ‘ote: It power source to winch requires no appreciable torque totum in-a “Neutral” or "OM" position and an adaptor an be made to ft the coupling, this step le not necessary. 3. Using a suitable adapter, place a torque wrench on the Input ‘shaft of the winch (87) 4.Moasure torque while turning the Input shat in the payout ai- rection. Torque seltings should be as follows: ‘Model Torque (bt) 34 70 Note: The torque value above Is necessary to brake the rated oad of the winch. In no caso shaula the brake setting ‘ver be Increased above this torque value. ‘5. To adjust the brake torque, loosen the two cap screws (28) and fotate the cam (63). To incroace tho brake seting, rotate away from the "0" or center setting, To reduce the brake seting, To tate the cam back toward the “0” or center setting, 8, Recheck the torque value as indicated In 4. above. To Inspect or Repair Brakes: 1. Loosen and remove cap screws (26) and washers (29) trom brake assembly. Tulsa Winch, Inc. Failure to re-intall tho {amin this position will result in the brake engaging In. the inhaul rather than the payout mode. '8.Remove the cap scrows (80) from the cover (87). 4. Remove the cover (67) from the brake housing (21) 5. The brake shoes (86) may now be removed for inspection 6.If the shoe linings are worn flush with the rivet heads, they should be replaced. 7. Inspect the drum (83) for severe wear or scoring, 1 necessary, lace the drum. 8. To remove the brake drum, remove the nut (86) and washer (84) 8. Insert two cap screws in the holes provided In the brake drum nd, using a gear puller, remove tho drum. 410. Inspsct the Inside lower part of the brake housing for the pre- sence of ol. an oll leak exists, replace the seal (35) To Change Direction of Brake Engagement: {. Remove cap screws (28) and washers (20). 2.Rolate cam (53) In either direction until enother set of drlled {nd tapped holes becomes visible through the slots in the cam, 3: Reinstall the cap serews (26) and washers (2) In these tapped 4, Adjust brake as described above. Caution: Any change in winch mounting, direction of cable Paling. oF replacement of worm and gear may etfect the operation of the brake.
