SHUAR COMMUNITY

There is the legend of a tribe in South America where they beheaded their enemies and
exhibited their mummified heads as a trophy. Well, it's not myth or legend, They are Shuar.

They are living distributed in the provinces of Morona-Santiago, Pastaza and Zamora-
Chinchipe.
The food of the shuar is based on fish and meat of wild animals, accompanied by palm heart,
corn, yucca, peanut, palm of chonta, banana, Chinese potato and sweet potato .

Chicha is your favorite drink. They prepare it from corn, cassava, banana and chonta.

The livelihood of the Shuar consists mainly of farming, gathering, hunting and fishing; They are
recently joining livestock.

He animals that live around the Shuar community are: panthers, tigrillo, monkeys, jaguar,
diversity of birds, insects, snakes and fish.
The main difficulty of the community is the lack of access to it, its customs and traditions and
being an isolated people do not know their lifestyle.

There are many festivities in the Shuar people among the most important we have:

La Fiesta de la Chonta, El Rito de la Cascada Sagrada, La celebración del Rito de la Culebra, La


Fiesta del Ayahuasca, Tzantza.
The population is currently approaching the contemporary world, adapting to technology,
little by little the new generations adopt new customs such as: the change of housing,
traditional clothing and no longer conserves exotic birds such as parrots, parrots and turkeys
as pets
