To Whom It May Concern:

It’s a great pleasure to write a letter of evaluation for Tawnie Simpson as she completes her
internship credit with The Kudzu Review. I can say with certainty that she has been an integral
part of the organization over the course of this semester. Not only is she a model student,
but her investment in The Kudzu Review is also clearly exemplified in the caliber of her work
with the magazine.

In Simpson ’s work with The Kudzu Review, she served as an Editorial Assistant for the
nonfiction section. This position entailed editing a large number of essays each week, and,
because of this workload, I can assure you that Simpson more than completed the 9,000-
word requirement necessary of a Kudzu Review intern this semester. Simpson ’s work as an
intern was always diligent. She was always on time to section meetings, and she was also
consistently clear in her critiques of the essays that she was responsible for. Simpson always
promptly returned essays that she was expected to review, and her commentary on each
essay’s formal elements was clear and well thought out. According to her section editor,
Melanie Raybon, Tawnie was a wonderful asset to the nonfiction section this semester. She
was vocal in section meetings, and when she did have to miss a section meeting she
immediately emailed her comments to her section editor, so that the group would not fall
behind in their publication timetable.

This semester, Simpson also spent time promoting The Kudzu Review on campus. Simpson
presented the publication requirements for the journal to two different English classes. She
also volunteered her time to hang The Kudzu Review fliers throughout the campus. Through
this time spent promoting the magazine it is clear that Simpson is dedicated not only to The
Kudzu Review but also to her responsibilities as an intern.

Tawnie Simpson has been an integral part of The Kudzu Review this semester. I believe it
would be difficult to find an intern that has used their time at more effectively than Simpson
has. I definitely recommend her for a passing grade in her internship. Please let me know if
you have any questions.
