Earthenware Dinnerware

Earthenware is ceramic that has been glazed and fired. It is often less expensive than other types of dinnerware and is typically
used for hand painted designs. They often look thick and have a rustic feel. Earthenware is not as strong and durable as other
types of dinnerware and is susceptible to chipping. Avoid leaving it submerged in water as it could absorb the liquid. Although
many glazed earthenwares are dishwater safe and can be used in the microwave, you still need to check with the manufacturer
to be sure.

Stoneware Dinnerware
The stoneware is another type of fired ceramic dinnerware, and is usually a bit more durable than earthenware. Glass material is
often added to it for strength. The body is finer and opaque than porcelain and china materials, and the finishing comes in a
variety of smooth textures such as shiny, satin or matte. It is typically used for casual, everyday place settings. Most stoneware
that of good-quality are usually very easy to use and maintain and are also dishwasher and microwave safe although you still
need to confirm with your manufacturer for the particular qualities of your dinnerware.
Porcelain Dinnerware or China Dinnerware
Porcelain and china are both terms that are used to refer to dinnerware made of a fine particle clay. It usually comprises of
kaolin, feldspar, and quartz that has been heated at a high temperature. This makes the resulting dinnerware to be extremely
durable and non-porous. This process allows the dinnerware to look more delicate and thin giving it a translucent appearance as
well as for shaped details to be added into the design. Most china wares are oven and microwave safe. China with touches of
silver, gold or platinum border should not be microwaved, and detergents with lemon scents might damage their metal accents
as well. Porcelain usually has a more formal look making it the dinnerware of choice for formal dining occasions, although it can
also be used for everyday meals.

Bone China Dinnerware

Bone china usually made from animal bones is combined with porcelain clay and heated at a slightly lower temperature than
porcelain to produce a translucent, lightweight and delicate in feel material with a milky appearance. It is the most durable and
strongest dinnerware despite its delicate look. Most bone china is oven and dishwasher safe and can be microwaved unless it
has metallic banding.
Vitrified Glass Dinnerware
Vitrified glass is glass that has been fired at a very high temperature so that it is nonporous and extremely durable. Corelle is the
best-known vitrified glass dinnerware, which is a proprietary glass laminate that is virtually indestructible – it will not chip or
break even when dropped onto a hard surface. The vitrified glass is dishwasher and microwave safe. Because of its durability, it
is ideal for children or outdoor use.

Melamine Dinnerware
This plastic material is lightweight but has a sturdy, inflexible feel and a glossy finish. It is very strong and is ideal for children or
outdoor use. It can be put in the dishwasher on the top rack, but shouldn’t be microwaved nor heated with food in it.
