Motto

The motto Sure and Stedfast was also taken from the latter part of the verse in Hebrews 6:19. The biblical
spelling from the Authorised Version of the Bible has been retained.

Hebrews 6: 19 (King James Version)

Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into
that within the veil;

Object

The object of The Boysʼ Brigade shall be the advancement of Christ ʼ s kingdom among Boys and the
promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-respect and all that tends towards a true
Christian Manliness.

The text of this object has remained the same since the beginning, with the addition of the word obedience in
1893.

The BB Object, for a long time, was one of the few statements of organisational purpose in the BB. It defines the
reason for the existence of The Boysʼ Brigade and it was this very binding ideology that saw the BB through its
many years of growth and success

Company Designation
THE BOYS’ BRIGADE
30TH SINGAPORE COMPANY
Target Induction Course (TIC)

Company Designation

Boys should be used to be talking of their company as "the 9th Singapore Company" or "the 60th Singapore
Company".

*for that matter, Our company is designated as the 30th Singapore Company.
*60th coy (coy is short for company) is the company at RI

Enrolment Service

One of the important ceremonies of a company is the Enrolment Service. It is an annual ceremony held early each year
to officially enrol a company’s officers and Boys. This service is typically held in late March and in church during Sunday
service with the presence of the sponsoring church’s congregation.

*Our enrolment service will be held in April, in Grace Methodist Church .

The Boys’ Brigade

The name of our organisation is “The Boys’ Brigade” (with a capital “T”,), regardless of its place in a sentence.

*That means in formal situations, you will refer the BB as ‘The Boys’ Brigade’, not just simply ‘Boys Brigade’

Table Grace

The BB also has a unique way of saying grace before we eat our meals together.

Be present at our Table Lord

Be here and everywhere adored
These mercies bless and grant that we
May feast in fellowship with Thee
Amen

Vesper

The BB Vesper is a prayer that we sing at the end of a BB gathering or function. Every BB Boy and Officer is
expected to know how to sing it.

Lyrics
Great God who knowest all our needs
Bless thou our watch and guard our sleep
Forgive our sins of thoughts and deed
And in Thy peace Thy servants keep

We thank Thee for the day that’s done

We trust Thee for the days to be
Thy love we learn in Christ Thy Son
O may we all His glory see!
Amen

*opps, I think I just dropped you a major hint… anyway you will need to memorise everything word for word here… and
If you remember the BB object earlier on, YES you also need to know that word for word.

And now, BB SONGS! You might notice during the camps we like to have sit down sessions where we sing songs.
Some of these songs are traditionally BB songs. For the TIC you will need to know the ʻANCHOR SONG”

Part 6 BB songs

The Anchor Song

Verse 1:
Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift or firm remain?

Chorus
We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Stedfast and sure while the billows roll,
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Savior's love.

Verse 2:
It is safely moored, 'twill the storm withstand,
For 'tis well secured by the Savior's hand;
And the cables passed from His heart to mine,
Can defy the blast, through strength divine.

Verse 3:
It will firmly hold in the straits of fear,
When the breakers have told the reef is near;
Though the tempest rave and the wild winds blow,
Not an angry wave shall our bark o'erflow.

Verse 4:
It will surely hold in the floods of death,
When the waters cold chill our latest breath;
On the rising tide it can never fail,
While our hopes abide within the veil.

*noticed how I bolded something? You should take a closer look at it
