CGS 1160C – Week 3 Concepts Review

COMPUTER HISTORY
Complex integrated circuits containing the central processing unit (CPU), or brains of the computer,
used in fourth-generation computers.

Microprocessors

These tiny electronic switches were the components used for processing data in the second-generation
computers.

Transistors

A prediction that the number of transistors placed on an integrated circuit would double approximately
every two years.

Moore's Law

They resemble incandescent light bulbs, produce a great deal of heat, and was the processing
component in the first-generation computers.

Vacuum Tubes

Large numbers of tiny transistors fabricated onto silicon, which were used for processing data in third
generation computers.
