Universal Design for Learning (UDL): In this activity students will engage themselves in the material and
present the information through technology. The site the students will use, bubbl.us, is an online tool that can
be used to make a graphic bubble concept map. Student will have to find the information regarding their
project on their own and make a mind map based on the information they gather.
Lesson idea implementation:
The teacher should start by reviewing the definition of characters, settings and events. Then students will
pick out a book to read from either the school or the teacher’s library. The teacher will discuss with the
students that they will be doing a book report on the book they choose. This report should include all the
main characters, the settings or where the story took place, and the events that happened in the book. The
book can be read in class or at home and the book report can be completed at home or in the computer lab.
The teacher will show the students how to use Bubbl.us in the computer lab but students could use
PowerPoint or use other tools to present their projects.

The final product can be presented to the class or sent to the teacher to grade. The projects will also be
graded based on a rubric to see if all the information required is included in the project. The rubric for this
project will also allow for comments from the teacher to provide to the student. Students could work in
groups and pick out a more complex book to read together and create a presentation with the group. Options
for presenting in a group could include filming a short video acting out the book along with a brief explanation
of the concepts. The students could also do research at home or in the computer lab prior to picking out a
book to work on for their project.

Reflective Practice: Bubbl.us or other interactive online creating tools provide students with a variety of ways
in which students can learn information and show their understanding of the curriculum. Other tools such as
PowerPoint or Prezi could be used to present the students projects.
