Question 1: Bracket Analysis

The Alloy Steel Bracket shown in Figure 1 requires static analysis to check for maximum stress
distribution and maximum displacement.

The bracket will be mounted on the ceiling and will be supporting a sign mounted on the bottom
flange of the bracket. The sign will be mounted onto the bracket with a flat ribbon like cable.

A 900 N force will be exerted on the bracket due to the weight of the sign and ribbon.

Figure 1

Instructions:
 Open the part Bracket.sldprt from the “Question 1 Bracket” folder.
 Create a static study, restrain at the appropriate location and apply a force of 900 N
perpendicular to the flange face as shown in Figure 1.
 Apply material to the bracket.
 Make screen dumps of the following results and paste them into the Word Document
“Bracket screen dumps.doc”. Answer questions (b) and (c) in the same folder.

a. Show a stress plot that shows the highly stressed areas.

b. Does the bracket safely hold the required load?

c. How could you reduce the stress in the highly loaded areas? [You are not required to
make this change.}

d. Show a plot of the maximum displacement (in mm) of the bracket.

Question 2: Jig Saw Analysis

A dynamic analysis of the jig saw shown in Figure 2 is required.

Instructions:
 Open the assembly Jig Saw.sldasm from the “Question 2 Jig Saw” folder.
 Apply a spindle speed of 600 rpm to the drive shaft, simulate a motion of one revolution
(starting from the top position), and determine graphically the values for the following motions
on the blade:
o Max. Linear velocity [mm/sec]
o Max. Linear acceleration [mm/sec2]
o Max. Linear displacement [mm]
 Arrange all plots on your screen, similar to Figure 2, and copy a screen dump into the “Jig Saw
Screen Dump.doc” Word document provided.
 Save your assembly, with all plots shown, as a JPG file into your “Jig Saw” directory.
 Produce an Animation file of your result and save it to your Question 2 folder on your USB
drive.
 Save the modified assembly to your Question 2 folder
