“We are fast becoming the amnesia generation”

Do you remember what did you have for lunch yesterday? Or when is your grandmother’s birthday?
If these answers have just slipped your mind, you should start worrying because you are probably
becoming part of the amnesia generation, which is rapidly increasing nowadays. The world has
extremely changed during the last decades due to the great number of technological advances and
the globalization phenomenon, causing some negative impacts in the new generations. One of those
is related with people’s memory, which started to atrophy. From my point of view, becoming the
amnesia generation is inevitable because of the technology facilities and the great amount of
information available.

The first reason why we are becoming the amnesia generation is that technology is always
facilitating our lives. In our current daily life, you do not need to remember every mobile phone
number, your friends’ birthdays or not even the way to a place because you just have to look for
that information in a very handy gadget, which seems to have all the answers, your smartphone.
People’s lives depend on devices which store very important data they just do not have time to
memorize.

A second reason to affirm that we will eventually become the amnesia generation, is related with
the large volume of information we have to deal with every day. As we live in a globalized world,
we not only have to be informed about what is happening in our surroundings, but also know what
is going on all around the world. Thus, it is not a surprise that our brain chooses to remember the
dollar today’s value over what we had for lunch yesterday. There is too much information available
and we tend to retain what we consider more relevant.

All in all,
