ABOUT THE AUTHOR 18

6
CALLED OUT TO EXCEL

1. Target

Seeing beyond the blur

Loins girded steadfastly

Hands reaching for the quiver

The target is locked down but knows not

She is not in dilemma about destination

With a single eye she moves swiftly

Taking with her courage and wisdom

Smashing her target with purposeful execution

Spending each day like the last

Moving in splendor of a majestic spectrum

Crossing boundaries; increasing efficiency

Silencing the target with apt precision

Ignoring naysayers, neglecting soothsayers

He ventures into the wild

Seeing the image in the distance

The marksman takes down his target

7
CALLED OUT TO EXCEL

2. Chance

The stage is set

Mother waits in anticipation

Father patient with keen expectations

Siblings full of glorious predictions

O what sight to behold

Results accomplished; celebrations and

congratulations

Knowing the risks yet taking the chance

Earnest now stands a victor and guide

A permission for others to shine

Will I fail, will there be pain

No pain no gain
I'd rather pay than have to blame
Like a game of chance
It will be shame if I don't attempt to play

The gates are opened

What lies behind the bars
The secrets of the great or a path of scars
Stepping in; crawling and trembling
Baby steps into greatness
I'm glad I took the chance

3. The Risen King

Who knows the ways of the deep

The one who sits in the pool of mysteries

Whose glory light cannot comprehend

Yet makes us links to his heritage

Fountain gold cannot buy

Treasure knowledge cannot decipher

So great yet so tender

So terrible yet a wonderful wonder

Who stooped down when others marched up

Descending into darkness with glory and splendor

Taking the keys, unlocking the bands

Now I have cause to be in love

For the recklessness of the bridegroom

Now makes me sit in heavenly places

Free to dance, free to sing.

CALLED OUT TO EXCEL

4. Embellished For Greatness

With a crown that glitters

Streaked with pearls and gems

Adorned wholly with the attire of kings

A prince embellished for greatness

With confidence that hypnotize

Speech that captivates the mind

Words that saturates the soul

Her words convey riches untold

A queen embellished for greatness

Surrounded with values of emperors

Associating intentionally with nobles

Drawing from the roundtable of priests

A child who fellowships with elders

A wise man embellished for greatness

Not playing with time

Rather, befriending and courting her

Making every second a love session

A youth braced with speed

An icon embellished for greatness.

10
CALLED OUT TO EXCEL

5. Reposition

Changing positions
Not with force or coercion
By associations that brings distinction
Wings of wondrous attraction
Destined for the topmost elevation

Not fighting with blindfolds

Punches that crushes the bone
The heart of the matter; the peak of the pole
Aiming for the heights, the Zenith of the goal

Climbing into the pinnacle of success

Relinquishing every hindrance to the process
Laying aside weights and toxic friends
Determined to pay the price of progress
Repositioned for greatness

11
CALLED OUT TO EXCEL

6. Scar

The journey through life

blessed me with a scar

An emblem of my battles and glory

A map to an unveiling story

Worth more than the price of rubies

A mark I cherish so dear

A sign that helps me not forget

From whence I came and where I am headed

So bloody yet so beautiful

A piece to an intriguing puzzle

A pointer to the friends that left

A beacon of the family I kept

A landmark for the battles I prevailed

So little so magnificent

A mark of my existence

A signal to unanswered questions

A reminder for unwavered decisions
An icon of broken associations

A roadmap of smarter connections

My mark of distinction

12
CALLED OUT TO EXCEL

7. Light

Amidst the thorns

Within the thistle

Amongst myriads of foes

Even then will I shine

A ray brooding over darkness

I am illuminated for progress

I shine without apology

Cultivating mastery, banishing mediocrity

Where compromise is a norm, there will I arise

A beacon of light, prevailing over darkness

Engraced beyond comprehension

Designed for manifestation

A glorious destiny, a marvelous testimony

Full of light, full of hope

Glowing in the midst of oppression

13
CALLED OUT TO EXCEL

8. I'm not one of you

In my darkest hour

When all strength is gone

A ray of hope; a beam of light

I'll shine when all else fades

I'm not one of you

Either there is light

Or the road ahead seems dark

With no one to guide my path

I'll shine when all else fades

I'm not one of you

You might think all is lost

There's no chance of success

You think I'll throw in the towel

I'll shine when all else fades

I'm not one of you

The world may cry retreat

The crowd may withdraw for despair
I'm here to take the crown

I'll shine when all else fades

I'm not one of you

14
CALLED OUT TO EXCEL

9. Turn Around

The road may be wide

Exciting and liberating
Only for the 'fast - smart'
Dear brother Turn around

Her words may be sweet and exciting

A free ticket to pleasure and stardom
It seems harmless and painless
Please reconsider, see the imminent danger

Let us set a trap for the slow

Speed is the signature of globe
We will profit from their ignorance
And build empires from their substance
Ah! You are getting entangled, run and never look
back

Read and study is all they say

Lovers of punishment haters of pleasure
What has studying done for them?
I will just stumble into excellence
Every master followed the process

These old people think we need their advice

What has their age done for them?
We are wise by idea; we need no guide
Dear brother, a word is sufficient for the wise
15
CALLED OUT TO EXCEL

10. Fear (haunting shadows)

All my success are dear

A clear restraint to fear

Although I had to flow some tears

The thought of failure still haunts me yet

But my quiver is full of courage

A weapon that gives me strength to bear

Though the shadows attempt to evade

Deep down I have a room of escape

A citadel of my pleasure

A palace of my treasure

A record of the victories I won

An archive of the battles I fought

He uses my failure as his weapon

I harass him with my triumph

Haunting me with my injuries

I disappoint him with my victories

Too many that he flees in retreat

I sit in my palace, a king over defeat

16
CALLED OUT TO EXCEL

11. The Ocean that Swallows Dreams

On the shores of life I stand

Amidst the waves and billows

With a choice to step into the ocean

Or remain on the edge of the shore

My dreams are dear

Toil, tears and fear I had to bear

To obtain the prize and make my dreams

materialize

But now the ocean is calling

Should I stay or should I arise

I’m not sure which choice would be worthwhile

I see a boat returning from the ocean

I met a sailor looking like a warrior

Before I spoke, he dashed my hopes

The ocean swallows dreams young one!

I’ve been conveying Doctors, Lawyers and

Astronauts

They all hoped to get across the sea

To a land that appreciates their gifts

17
CALLED OUT TO EXCEL

The ocean young one is besieged!

Sharks of corruption! Whales of perversion!

These sea monsters swallow dreams

They crush Dreamers – empty their dreams in the

ocean

My friend, so many try to cross

Only few ever get to the other side

But there’s bliss over the reef

You can make it ashore but you must brace

yourself

Now you know about the ocean that swallows

dreams

Stay or sail – it’s yours the choice to make
