Part C: Sustainability Cross-Curriculum Priority.

Throughout this design brief students will need to constantly think about and

acknowledge sustainability. The Australian Curriculum places emphasis on

Sustainability and how it is an integral part of student learning. Within this specific

design brief students are learning of the environment and how it is able to sustain life

within it.

This design brief will be placed within the third point within the Cross-

Curriculum activity; participating critically and creatively in determining more

sustainable patterns of living (ACARA, n.d.). Students will be needing to create an

environmental diorama which focuses on them designing a specific environment

which will be able to sustain life and surrounding the surrounding environment.

Under ACARA, (n.d.) students will be focusing around the Key Concept

section which acknowledges, “the first key concept explores the interdependent and

dynamic nature of systems that support all life on Earth and our collective wellbeing”,

(ACARA, n.d.). This relates to the design brief as students will explore the difference

between two desert environments and learn how these two systems work differently

from one another.

The design brief will be following the Organising Ideas outlines which covered the

section on Systems and also Futures. The section covering Systems covers all areas

for this design brief, the section covering Futures only covers section OI.9,

Sustainable futures result from actions designed to preserve and/or restore the

quality and uniqueness of environments (ACARA, n.d.).

Under this design brief students will focus on Sustainable Development Goal

number 13, Climate Action (United Nations, 2015).
