METHOD STATEMENT OF CORING & SEALING WORKS

Objective

This method of statement is aimed to provide a general guideline regarding the coring and sealing
works at interconnection.

Scope of Works

The scopes of works for interconnection works are:

- To core two openings of 760mm x 1070mm at existing channel walls Plant 1 and Plant 2
through the new connection chambers.
- To seal the gap between existing structure and new structure by installing stainless steel (SS)
plate.

METHOD STATEMENT OF CORING & SEALING WORKS

Method Statement (Refer Appendix- Figure 1 & Figure 2)

1. The interconnection between Filter Plant 1 and Filter Plant 2 is from the 0.76m x 1.07m
openings to the existing filter RC wall. The openings shall be cored and hacked from the new
connections chamber.

2. Upon completion of the connection chamber and completion of the pipe laying work, the
coring of the existing wall shall commence.

3. Coring machine with 150mm dia. coring bit shall be used to core the external wall from the
connection chamber. Edges of the cored wall shall be hacked and cut to form the smooth edges
to receive the SS lining surround to the newly form opening.

4. Since, there is a gap between the existing structure and new structure, the treatment of this gap
shall be conducted prior to the installation of the SS plate.

5. The edges at the bottom and sides the channel shall be PU grouted as shown in Figure 1 and
Figure 2. Bituminous compound shall be poured to fill the gap. Swellable water bar shall be
lined at the perimeter of the opening.

6. Cast in situ concrete G35A kerbs height of 100mm shall be casted at the slab of the new
constructed channel. Similar source of concrete G35A from existing supplier shall be used and
existing slab shall be roughen to receive the new concrete.

7. 15mm thick non shrink grout shall be trowelled to the four sides of the opening to level the cut
edges to receive the SS plate.

8. 3mm thick SS plate shall be placed and fixed properly on the non-shrink grout. Sika Swell S2
sealant shall be placed at the edges of the 3mm SS plate. This shall prevent any water seepage
below the 3mm SS plate.

9. Rapid hardening cement mortar shall be trowelled on top of the Sika Swell S2 sealant and the

SS plate as shown in Figure 1 & Figure 2.

10. After SS plate installation completed, settled water channel Plant 1 shall be temporary drained
for period maximum of four hours for the removal of the sand bags at Plant 1 and followed by
Plant 2 at different date.

11. 800mm Butterfly Valve shall be used to isolate Plant 1 from Plant 2 to remove the sand bags at
Plant 2. Settled water channel Plant 2 shall be temporary drained for period maximum of four
hours for the removal of the sand bags at Plant 2. The water than shall resume and butterfly
valve shall be opened to allow the water to be flow from Plant 1 to Plant 2. Thus, the whole
interconnection work is completed.

Safety

- All works shall comply to the safety procedure or instruction as set in local authorities
rules and regulation.
- Basic personal protective equipment (PPE) shall be worn by all staff and workers.

- Ventilation and exhaust fan shall be used for the work inside the connection chamber and
settled water channel.

- Site Safety Supervisor to detect and ensure that the work area is free from chlorine gases.

- Site Safety Supervisor shall monitor closely for work within the confined space.
