Tweet! Tweet! Hello there, my name is Charlie and we have noticed a lot of

waste around the school community. We have be living amongst the trees in your

school but want somewhere more sustainable and homely to live in.

Your task is to explore what recyclable materials can be use to build a birdhouse

to make it more sustainable. You must think about the which materials will last

during summer and winter, and what materials can be used to decrease waste.

You are going to design a birdhouse out of recyclable materials. You must

research how birds live, gather recyclable materials and create a house for us

birds to live in around your school.

Your birdhouse must only be made out of recyclable materials and must be built

for birds to live inside. The materials you need are types recyclable objects that

we have learnt about during class time. You will have to provide these materials

yourself.

You will have the eight lessons to design and create a sustainable birdhouse.

Lessons 1 & 2: Discover which types of birds live in our school and research about

their habitat, diet and lifestyle.

Lesson 3: Research traditional birdhouses and brainstorm ideas on what

materials to use to be more sustainable.

Lessons 4 & 5: In a group of three, design your sustainable birdhouse. During this

time you must start to bring in recyclable items to use.

Lesson 6 & 7: Build your birdhouse.

Lesson 8: Nature walk

In lesson eight we will place your birdhouses up into the trees at school and see

if any birds will live there.

As a class we will have a nature walk around the school and look at your

creations. The rest of the school will be able to see your sustainable birdhouses.

You will have the whole term to plan, create and build a sustainable birdhouse

out of recyclable materials.
