Title Difference
: of Tensile Strength Fiber Between Soaked And Drained
Bagasse

Bagasse is the fiber of residual sugar mill which had experienced five times milling.
Besides that, bagasse is biodegradable, cheap and has high modulus. Tensile strength
is the maximum load that still can be accepted by a material in megapascals units
(MPa). This study was conducted to determine differences tensile strength value of
bagasse fiber between the soaked and drained bagasse using Universal Testing
Machine (UTM) with maximum load of 500/kgf. The distance between the grips was
maintained throughout 9 mm with crosshead speed of 20 mm/min. The results
showed the tensile strength value of soaked bagasse fiber was 0.26 MPa and tensile
strength values of dried bagasse fiber was 0.54 MPa. Data obtained by Mann-
Whitney test with significant numbers p <0.05 and showed there was no difference
between soaked and drained bagasse fiber.
