95 A platen of thermal conductivity k=15W/mK is heated by ow of a hot uid through

channels of width L=20mm, with T∞,i = 200 ºC and hi= 500W/m^2K.
The upper surface of the platen is used to heat a processuid at T∞,o=25 ºC with a
convection coefcient of ho=250W/m^2K. The lower surface of the platen is insulated. To
heat the process uid uniformly, the temperature of the platen’s upper surface must be
uniform to within 5 ºC. Use a nite-difference method, such as that of IHT, or the
nite-element method of FEHT to obtain the following results.

(a) Determine the maximum allowable spacing W between the channel centerlines that
will satisfy thespecied temperature uniformity requirement.
(b) What is the corresponding heat rate per unit length from a ow channel?
